Biography

My name is Rio Petroff. I moved to Austin recently from Seattle, WA. I am a native to Seattle and used to call myself a unicorn because there were many transplants living in Seattle but now, I am one.

I got my start working in medical billing and alternative health care. I moved to South Seattle; and got the opportunity to open a YMCA two blocks from my home. I had such a wonderful time working with the community throughout the building process, hiring staff, and teaching exercise classes. When I go visit, I cherish the memories I have made and look forward to children growing up with a YMCA in their neighborhood just as I did as a child.

After my family grew, I took a position with the City of Kent working as the Supervisor in Customer Service. I learned so many new skills such as billing utilities, business licensing, and city taxes. I'm happy to be able to join Austin Water as the Taps Manager. It is a thrill to be learning about the build and development side of water.

When I am not working, I am usually spending time at the gym, cooking with my family, or attending a live music concert. Austin has a great music, and food scene I can’t wait to explore.

Plumber Program

Did you know the Austin Water offers a program for licensed plumbers to install residential meters?

Training provided from our Meter Service Investigators results in a higher rate of passed inspections. The benefit of this program is expedited access to water and an increased chance for a passing inspection. This means less fees and time spent on re-inspections.

If you would like more information on how to join this program, please reach out to AWTaps@AustinTexas.gov
