Behind the Scenes with Lakeview's Meteorologists in Training
In pursuit of the Mahopac Central School District’s dedication to providing its students with up to date and relevant education, Trish Huestis and Mimi Murphy have challenged Lakeview Elementary’s fourth grade class to become weather forecasters.

“The earthquake that just happened is being called the Valdivia Earthquake, let’s go to Mason,” fourth grader Max reported, sitting beside his cohost Hailey in front of a green screen.

The young meteorologists are responsible for every facet of their production, from scripting to presenting, filming, and even video editing.

“Hello, I’m here with someone who said he was in the earthquake,” said Mason, ostensibly live on the scene of the 1960 natural disaster. “Let’s see what he has to say.”

The reporter in training then held his microphone out in front of fellow Lakeview student Joey who proceeded to describe his detailed and harrowing tale of survival during the estimated 9.4-9.6 magnitude earthquake.
Utilizing the district’s Chromebooks, students will take the footage that they shoot to create their very own breaking news segments on historical weather disasters. From newsy intro graphics and tunes to student actors live on the scene of hurricanes, Lakeview’s fourth grade class is responsible for every part of their broadcast.

This Week in Mahopac

This week there were a ton of fun, educational events that took place at Mahopac's schools, including when Samantha Howard and Michelle Savino's class dressed as surgeons to "dissect" the dimensions of composite figures to find their area and when students in Team 5BZ made snow in class.
MMS 8th Grade Visits the High School
The 8th grade class from Mahopac Middle School visited the high school this week to hear from faculty, staff, and students about high school. They even got a surprise show from the MHS band and chorus.
100 Cans of Kindness
Fulmar Road's kindergarten class collected over 850 food items so far and started delivering them to St John’s food pantry in Mahopac as part of the "100 Cans of Caring" food drive. The drive will continue through the end of February.

Mahopac ski athlete Aydin Aivazians made great strides this season with the help of his coaches Krista Osborn and Don Markoe, as well as his teaching aide, Robin Faulkner. Aydin also couldn't have enjoyed his many successes this season without the help of fellow student-athletes James Biolchini and Jack Edwards. Everyone at Mahopac schools is excited to see what Aydin will accomplish next.
