April 2023| Volume 3 Issue 2
Head of School Mary Newman teaching Spanish
Dear Alumni,

Mud season is in full swing, and the typically dramatic changes in temperature (35 to 83 in one week) are giving us all a glimpse of how close the end of another school year actually is.

First, the Middle School put on an absolutely outstanding Circus and Carnival last month, drawing record crowds and filling the gym with palpable joy that was felt by the entire community.

Second, we just welcomed a handful of alumni back to campus as part of Career Day on Friday, April 7. It was wonderful to see the faces of graduates from as early as 2002 and as recently as 2021 speaking directly to current students about how to imagine life after high school.

Third, a special highlight for me was getting back in the Spanish classroom for Module 6. I was reminded of how much I miss being in class with students every day, listening to Latin pop music, and wrestling with verb tenses. My students deserve a big shout-out for putting up with my Head of School/Spanish Teacher juggling act!

Finally, we are so excited to be planning our second annual Phoenix Phest. We hope to see you there!

Affectionately,
Alumni Joy
Alumni Ski Day 2023
Two hearty alums and one former head of school braved the "wet granular" conditions on Wednesday, January 4, to reconnect and get in some good turns down The Face at Saskadena Six. With this group, it is safe to say that Andrew did not win the race!

Circus Interim rocks
The Middle School opened the annual Carnival and Circus on Friday, March 24, to enthusiastic community participation. The attendance was stronger than even pre-COVID times. While it has traditionally been a community event that draws families with children from throughout the region, the pent-up energy and excitement was palpable.

As usual, the story was created by the students themselves, under the guidance of Troy Wunderle of Big Top Adventures. This year's title "Masquerade Ball" refers to the wicked queen's attempt to flaunt her power at a ball, but the villagers prevail.

Arts Day returns
Family Arts Day took place on a dreary day outside, but Sunday, April 2, inside the high school was full of color, laughter, and joy

TSA students and faculty, along with several community visual artists and musical performers, led workshops and presented music for an afternoon of creativity, exploration, and boundary-stretching.

Career Day welcomes alumni
On April 7, High school students welcomed and learned from alumni and community members about a range of careers as they contemplate life after high school and college. It was wonderful to see the faces of graduates from as early as 2002 and as recently as 2021 speaking directly to current students about how to imagine life after high school.

Alumni participating included:
  • Colby Ebbighausen '13, Buyer for C&S Wholesale Grocers
  • Leah Heaney-Forbes '13, Key Customer Analyst at Cabot Creamery

Exhibitions return
It was so wonderful to see the incredible, hard work of the presenters on Monday, April 10, of their exhibitions and capstone projects. COVID-19 had disrupted this annual signature experience, but the students, mentors, and others who support this curriculum made great strides to re-establishing it in our school culture.
