Learning Amongst the Trees
This summer, Newport Tree Conservancy’s program director, Rachel Holbert, has made sure that Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center campers have had the opportunity to explore our urban forest. MLK campers have enjoyed field trips to Miantonomi Park, NTC’s Heritage Tree Center near Rogers High School, and Ballard Park. Forested city parks offer a wealth of things to explore, including leaf shapes, bark textures, woodpecker holes, and bugs beneath mulch. While visiting the HTC, campers marveled at tiny trees grown from seed that will one day become towering, shady additions to Newport’s urban forest.

These free, active summer programs have been made possible by the Frederick H. Prince Memorial Fund. Getting kids moving and curious about the trees in our city is a year-round priority that increases the environmental literacy and wellbeing of our youngest residents. Stay tuned as NTC returns to school programming soon!

Fall Tree Program:
New Growth in Newport

We are happy to announce the launch of our Fall Tree Program, seeking to help our community as a whole gain more access to trees and the shade they offer. Our staff have been busy selecting a variety of beautiful trees, including native specimen trees, to choose from.

One of our main goals here at the Newport Tree Conservancy is to replenish and encourage the growth and spread of our urban canopy. This fall, you have the unique opportunity to be a part of this initiative. Opening later this month, registration will begin to select a tree you would like to plant in your own back yard. Pairing with our Tree Equity initiative, areas with less trees and access to shade will have top priority in building this urban forest together.

Check out the planting programs regularly for updates!

Evening of the Arboreta
Despite some dramatic weather towards the end of the night, this year's Evening of the Arboreta was a fantastic send-off to summer.

We are tremendously grateful to our hosts, Lynn & Peggy Comfort, to our great team of volunteers, and to our guests and supporters who helped to make this year's event another rousing success. Click the link below to see photos from the evening.
