FIVE THINGS TO CONSIDER FOR TODAY

(with apologies for 'same day' notice!)

Many of the religions represented in our community have recently observed important holy periods lately--Lent, Passover, Orthodox Easter, and many more-- or are nearing the end of such observances (like the Holy Month of Ramadan, which ends with Eid al Fitr on May 1).

Nonetheless, today, Thursday, April 28, is full of things in social justice and civic engagement with some interfaith focus; consider:

  1. Early Voting in St Joe County (today and through Monday, May 2 at noon; weekend hours at the county buildings in DT South Bend and Mishawaka); primary day is Tuesday, May 3 and you can search for your voting location here.
  2. Workers Memorial Day, 4-6 at Howard Park, honoring those who have died in workplace situations and thanking labor for their work in safeguarding workers here and around the world.
  3. YWCA Racial Justice Awards, on the County Courthouse steps, from 6-7 p.m. Our URC Board Treasurer, Rev. Tina Patton, will be among those honored!
  4. Prayer Vigil for Civon Green, a recent homicide victim, put on by the On-Site Prayer Ministry at 6:30 p.m. at 2400 Northside Blvd, SB.
  5. Yom Hashoah Ceremony, 6:30-8 p.m. at the St. Joseph County Public Library, Main Branch, sponsored by The Jewish Federation of St. Joseph Valley.

Most of these are outdoors; none of these require registration, though the YWCA event organizers would like to know how many are attending.

Consider participating in one or all; you'll be appreciated, and you will likely appreciate the experiences.
