Building affordable homes in
Nez Perce and Asotin Counties since 1991
February 2023
As the snow begins to melt, the grass gets a little greener, and the sun feels a little warmer; spring time is right around the corner. The arrival of spring brings us out of our hibernation and we begin to CLEAN. Whether it is picking up around the outside or finally getting to that old storage unit you haven’t been to in months, spring cleaning is in the air.

We often put off getting rid of things we don’t need for fear of being wasteful. When you choose to donate to the ReStore, we take your donated items and recycle them back into our community. This keeps it out of the landfill and helps to fund our vision of making sure Everyone has a decent place to live.  We take donations at our store or offer free scheduled pickup.

Your local ReStore can also help with all of your projects. Whether it is paint or paint supplies for that project you are starting or just time to switch out appliances or furniture, we can help.

GOLDEN THRONE
THANK YOU CHS & LHS for your donation!
Following a 28 year tradition, during the week of January 23rd, Clarkston and Lewiston High Schools collected money for select local charities. They raised a record $27,000! As one of the chosen charities, L-C Valley Habitat will receive 30% of the total raised. This donation of $8,100 will be used to support our programs focused on safe, affordable housing in the LC Valley.
Colvin Home Construction Update
The future home of the Colvin Family is coming right along! We now have it "dried in" with house wrap and sheeting on the roof. We're tightening up some details on the inside then we will be moving on to the next steps. Soon we will be installing trusses on the carport, adding windows and doors, and working on siding and trim. Stay tuned to this newsletter and our social media to see our progress.

We are always seeking additional volunteers for all stages of construction. If you are interested in joining us on the build site, click here or call our office at 509-758-7396.
Clarkston Affordable Home Repair (CAHR) Update
Before: Missing grout in shower and bathroom floor
After: New shower and bathroom flooring
Cookie's home needed numerous repairs when we completed our initial inspection. Initially, we believed that we would need to regrout her shower and bathroom floor. When it came time to begin the work, we discovered that the water damage from the absence of grout in the shower had caused significant structural issues. A sink hole was developing under her shower pan and it was only a matter of time before it gave way! We were able to reinforce the subfloor, replace the tiled shower with a new fiberglass unit, install an exhaust fan, and replace the bathroom flooring. Water from the shower will no longer be an issue.

While working on Cookie's home, we also replaced the exterior door to her basement, supported sagging floor beams, installed an egress window, updated some of unsafe electrical outlets, installed gutters, and caulked the siding.

These critical repairs will make it safe for Cookie and her daughters to live in the home for years to come.
At this time, we are in the process of completing our final projects around Clarkston. We have reached the end of our grant funding for the CAHR program and are no longer taking applications.
Welcome Kim Tuschhoff
to our Board of Directors
I have lived in Lewiston almost all my life. My husband, Andy, is from the valley also. We went to high school together, but didn’t meet until later in life. We don’t have any children of our own but are very close with our families. They also live in the valley.

I have worked in some form of education for almost 23 years including tutoring, subbing, teaching, adult education, and now advising college students at LC State. I've been at the college 15 years, as of this year. I love what I do and helping people!
This love for helping others is a big part of why I joined the board. I want to give back to my community and enjoy volunteering. I know affordable housing is needed in our valley, and I want to be a part of making that happen for people.

When ready to donate your unused furniture, appliances, and building materials, we recognize you have options and appreciate your ongoing support of The Store That Builds Homes.

If you choose to drop off your items, we are here to help unload them during regular business hours: Tuesday - Friday 9 am to 5:30 pm and Saturday 9 am - 4 pm. We ask that you do not drop off donations in the evenings or on Sunday and Monday when we are closed. When we aren't available to bring items inside, they often sustain damage from inclement weather and we are forced to dispose of them.

If you are unable to bring your donation to the store, we offer free pickup. To schedule a time for us to come get your items, we have an EASY online form that is available 24 hours a day, or you can call us at 208-743-1300.

On the photo of the store website, you will notice two green boxes. The first is a link to our Do Not Accept list. If you are ever curious whether or not we will take a specific item you want to donate, your answers will be found here. The second, is a link to our online donation pickup form. It takes less than 2 minutes to complete, then a member of our ReStore staff will call you soon for scheduling. You can find both at https://l-cvalleyhabitat.org/store/
THANK YOU for your in-kind donations:
