Tribal Transportation Safety Webinar

Celebrate Native American Heritage Month with FHWA's "Innovation Exchange" webinar, which focuses on tribal transportation safety: highlighting available resources, funding opportunities, and project success stories.


Learn about USDOT's Tribal Transportation Program Safety Fund (TTPSF)—currently open for federally recognized tribes—that supports projects designed to reduce fatal/serious injuries in transportation related incidents.


Hear how the Absentee Shawnee Tribe addressed safety concerns identified in their Tribal Safety Plan as their project team shares steps taken and lessons learned in successfully coordinating the completion of there TTPSF projects.

Wildfire Prevention Grants


As part of the Governor’s Wildfire & Forest Resilience Strategy, the California Department of Forestry & Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) announced the availability of up to $117M in Wildfire Prevention Grants for local projects that address the risk of wildfire and reduce wildfire potential to communities.


Grant funding may be used for hazardous fuel reduction, wildfire prevention planning, and wildfire prevention education with an emphasis on protecting communities, improving public health & safety, and reducing GHG emissions. 



The deadline for applications is January 10, 2024.

Building Resilient Infrastructure & Communities


FEMA has its released FY2023 funding opportunity for the Building Resilient Infrastructure & Communities (BRIC) grant program. 


BRIC is funded at $1B for this grant cycle


BRIC grants support states, local communities, tribes, and territories as they undertake hazard mitigation projects, reducing the risks they face from disasters and natural hazards. Eligible applicants include states, the District of Columbia, U.S. territories, and federally recognized tribal governments.


BRIC Funding Supports:


  • Capability & Capacity Building Activities 
  • Hazard Mitigation Projects 
  • Management Costs 

 

Applications must be submitted via Grants.gov by February 29, 2024

NCHRP Research Report:

Organizing & Operating Emergency Response


The newly released "State DOT Models for Organizing & Operating Emergency Response" shows how various DOTs have organized to manage and respond to emergencies of all types and sizes, including how to scale up for larger, longer-lasting incidents.


This report will help new and experienced practitioners as they fulfill their emergency response incident and event management responsibilities.


Offered as a supplement is the web-only document "Emergency Response: Organizational & Operational Models Used by State DOTs", which helps transportation agencies improve their emergency response and support robustness and resilience into their operations.
