St. Pete Youth Farm's Newest Mural
Our Youth Ambassadors and their character depictions on the iBOMS mural facing the farm!
We had Albert Risemberg, local worm farmer, teach the worm class that morning and feed our worm friends as well! We harvested a whole wheelbarrow of castings and we're basking in the abundant black gold that await our future seedlings!
We also had a blast at the Tampa Bay Collard Green Festival last month, this was our 3rd year in a row participating and we're so grateful for all the people who stopped by to meet us! We made so many new connections, and we love getting to share what we do everyday here in the community with our Youth Ambassadors. Many who came by went home with pigeon peas to eat or plant, or baby collard green and mustard green seedlings for their own garden. Thanks to Boyzell Hosey and Samantha Harris for putting on another year of an amazing festival, we can't wait to do it again next year!
We had an amazing Black History Community Workday last Saturday thanks to the MANY wonderful people and organizations that made it possible. Thank you to Jabari Reed (iBOMS) for continuing to work with us and completing a beautiful mural we will enjoy for years to come. The mural was made possible by the City of St. Petersburg, St. Petersburg Parks & Recreation, the Foundation for a Healthy St. Pete, and the St. Petersburg Arts Alliance. We also had PSTA and crew bring out the iBOMS/Youth Farm bus to the farm and they spent the morning with us as well.
We had the Pinellas Young Democrats, Eckerd College, St. Petersburg College, PSTA, Girl Scout Troop #60571, Mike Jefferies (Parks & Rec), Nicole Berman (St. Pete Pride) Dr. Keesha Benson, Julie Rocco (FHSP), Harold Bryant Jr (FHSP), Terry Marks (SPAA), USF Professors & Partners (Trey Conner, Winnie Mulamba, & Heather O'Leary), Lars Doebler, Laura Oldanie join us amongst ALL our other volunteers that spent time with us at the farm composting, shelling peas, playing drums, weeding, or hanging out.
If you haven't come by the farm recently, our our 20 x 40 foot Fresh n Local greenhouse in partnership with USF St. Petersburg was completed earlier in February by Aquasol International and it looks great.
The structure itself is built, but we do not have electricity to run the structure or the hydroponic system that will be placed inside soon once designed and ready. We are really looking forward to pursuing our year-round growing dreams!!!
Our Guest Chef Series has been full and exciting for February as well. We had some of the top chefs in the area come out to the farm and cook with our Ambassadors. Chef Jeffrey Jew of Lingr Restaurant, Chef Danny Newberg of Joint Venture NYC, and Chef Donny Burnett of Lay Low Chateau Hospitality. We've cooked rice and pigeon peas, salmon and veggies, as well as chicken and sun-dried tomato pasta. All the chefs implemented ingredients that we were growing or have grown at the farm!

Community Compost

We've launched our compost program for all our volunteers, visitors, or anyone who wants to divert their food waste towards a good cause. Every last Saturday of the month anyone can drop off food scraps (what we accept is listed to the right). We'll also have drive up drop off at our 12th St entrance. Help us continue to build nutrient rich soil!
Women's History Month Community Workday!
Happy Women's History Month! What better way to celebrate women of the past than by honoring women of today along side them. This will be an amazing day of reflection and bringing together dynamic women here locally that make a difference.
On our flyer, we have Fannie Lou Hamer, an activist many are familiar with in regards to voting and women's right, but not many know that she was a proponent of Black people's right to farm and the freedom that came with that. She started the Freedom Farm Cooperative as an economic development and political organizing project in Mississippi.
Let's remember Fannie Lou Hamer and honor her legacy with amazing women in our community this Women's History Month.

Volunteer Farm Fridays!
Every 1st and 3rd Friday of the month (with the exception of this month) we welcome anyone interested in volunteering to come out to the Farm.
We do various projects starting at 7:30am to 9:30am. Every little bit helps and we'd love to spend time with you all.

Because of Spring break we will NOT be having a volunteer day on Friday, March 18th! Our next Farm Friday will be April 1st.
We'll be at the Euclid St. Paul Neighborhood Assoc. Movie Night
Come out to a Family Friendly Movie night under the stars. Donations will be collected to benefit the work we do at St. Pete Youth Farm and our Youth Ambassadors.

We'll be out there starting at 6:30pm to enjoy the movie Encanto with everyone who joins. Bring a blanket or chair and come hangout with us.

Thank you ESPNA for choosing to support us!
