In this email: At-Large Candidate, PIT, and Full Membership Updates

Update From the At-Large Candidates:

The At-Large candidate selection process prioritizes transparency to empower CoC members in voting decisions. The At-Large candidates are ensuring transparency through an open interview process, allowing CoC members to make informed choices during the election. See their answers to this question below:

Question: Do you serve a special population or sector of the BoS? If so, which one? (For this board year, these would be special populations or sectors: youth, lived experience, BIPOC, LGBTQ+, law enforcement, and education.)

Darius Johnson, Youth Action Board Member

I serve a few different special populations such as youth and young adults. As well as members of the LGTBQIA+ and BIPOC community. Although I believe I am not limited to just these special populations.

Robin Durbin of Elevate Lebanon

As the Director of Elevate Lebanon Connections, I serve the underserved and those with lived experience, addressing a range of challenges such as social, domestic violence, health, mental health, substance misuse, and poverty issues within Region 8 of the BoS. This includes individuals of all races, ages, and gender identities. Working with this diverse population underscores the importance of tailoring support to each person's unique needs, fostering an inclusive and supportive community environment.

Brian Williams of RCCCP

The special population that our agency assists in addressing homelessness and housing is our justice involved population with an emphasis and focus upon those individuals that are a part of our county justice center.

Sonia Campbell of Catholic Charities of KC & St. Joseph

When it comes to serving a special population, we serve everyone that comes through our door. We help agency staff focus on equity and inclusion for applicants and clients. We follow the HUD Equal Access rule and require HUD housing programs to provide clients equal access without regard to a person’s actual or perceived sexual orientation, gender identity, or marital status. With Catholic Charities, we are sensitive and support the cultural aspects of diverse households. With our programs at Catholic Charities, we have people with lived experience working as case managers, which helps because they have been directly impacted by homelessness. With the Community Housing and the SSVF programs that I manage, we cover the St. Joseph COC and several counties in the MOBOS. One reason why I try to get more involved with MOBOS is that we are open to addressing all those issues with our agencies and clients we serve and communicating our mission and values to others in the community. Who would not want to be part of all the great work everyone does every day? This is how we will continue to make a difference in ending homelessness in the MOBOS Continuum of Care; WORKING TOGETHER.
