Cool Ideas: Cooking, Conversation Inspire Intergenerational Connections

Conversation and cooking helped bring Rajee Subramanian and her granddaughter, Maya Ramaswamy, closer together. It also inspired her to create Recipe4Life, a digital vegetarian cookbook. Rajee, who Maya calls Ammamma, left India for Wilmette, Ill. in 2020. Maya recalled family trips to India.

"Of the wonderful memories from those trips, none stand out as much as the nights when my grandmother would cook my great-grandmother's recipes, the rest of us gathered around the aromatic kitchen listening to my great-grandmother share stories and life lessons," she said on her website.
