Upcoming Service

Do We Know It All?

Rev. Julie Conrady

10:45 a.m., Sunday, March 16th, 2025

In a world with a 24-hour news cycle, a wealth of information at our fingertips, and unlimited access to information, do we have access to all knowledge? How do we remain humble and open and learning throughout the lifespan? Let us open ourselves up during Lent to the spiritual practice of not knowing and new opportunities.

This Sunday Events

Coffee Hour

Directly After Service

The Hospitality Team always welcomes (and needs) assistance at Coffee Hour and Potlucks. A number of special celebrations are being planned during the coming weeks and months: the ABD Banquet in late March; our traditional Easter Egg Hunt, which will be held for the first time at the church this year; the "welcome back"/wedding reception for Rev. Jaimie and Will in early May; and a major Gay Pride celebration at First Sunday June potluck. Only Volunteer Power can make these events happen! If you would like to contribute/participate, sign up in person with the posters in the Fellowship Hall, online here, or contact June Norton or Kathryn Heath on your Hospitality team.

Music News

Join the UUCH Music Ministry!

TRUST is our theme for the month of March, and trust is the foundation upon which strong connections are built. Trust between choir members is evident in the melodies and harmonies we build together. Come hear the UUCH Choir sing “Connected,” by Brian Tate. Taylor Delacey will be our guest percussionist.

Choir rehearsal this Sunday is at 12:10, after coffee hour.

Nursery Care

Nursery care will be available during the service
from 10:30-12:15.

Little ones can be signed in and out upon arrival and departure in the RE wing.

This Week in CYRE

This is our third week of exploring The Practice of Trust. So far, we have explored trusting ourselves and others. This week, we look at what it means to trust life. We will talk about how we can support those voices in our heads that say, “Life is good!” and develop the courage to take “leaps of faith.” The Hindu holiday of Holi happens in March, so we will look at its celebration of good over evil. St. Patrick’s Day is also in March, so we will use it as a chance to ask, “Is life just random and full of luck, or does it lean in the direction of goodness?”

"Love is at the Center" Annual Budget Drive

The theme for our 2025 Annual Budget Drive is “Love at the Center” to remind us that love is our core spiritual value. Generous donations of time, talent, and treasure from members and friends are needed to maintain our church as a beacon of love and hope in a hurting world. Let each of us do our part to sustain and grow this loving flame.

In celebration of the generosity of UUCH members and friends during our “Love at the Center” Annual Budget drive, please RSVP to attend our Stewardship Banquet Saturday, March 29 at 5pm. We’ll have a special meal, live entertainment, beverages, and childcare.

For our entertainment, “Alli and Friends” will sing and play folk and contemporary music. Alli Johnson is a popular local artist, CEO of a music production company, and long time member of UUCH. Additionally, a church favorite, teen Torin Kyemba will play his favorite jazz and classical on the piano.

Over 90% of our income comes from pledge commitments. We encourage you to take time to make a financial pledge during the month of March to allow us to budget for the church year beginning July 1st. We ask everyone to consider increasing their pledge this year, with an overall goal of increasing by 5%. That increase would account for inflation as well as enhance and enable programming, social justice outreach, and growth. We ask that no one gives beyond what is appropriate for them; every pledge is deeply appreciated and needed regardless of the amount!

Our UUCH website at https://uuch.org/connecting/pledge/ has links to RSVP for the banquet and to our online pledge form. Most will also receive a packet with RSVP information, a hard copy pledge form, and return envelope in the mail very soon. Hardcopy forms are also available on our bulletin board in Hospitality Hall.

We hope to see you at the Banquet on March 29! Please RSVP here by no later than March 23. If you cannot attend, a negative response on the SignUpGenius is greatly appreciated!/

Email Zena at stewardship@uuch.org for more information.

UUCH Photo Directories Have Arrived!

The UUCH photo directories arrived last week. If you or your family had a picture made in November for the directory, please see Pam Korb after the Sunday service to pick up your copy, or contact membership@uuch.org to make other arrangements.

Property Progress - Big Thank You

Huge thank you to the people who showed up for the last two Property improvement Saturday Mornings. We have been in our building for 10 years. Things that looked great when we moved in are starting to need some repair and freshening up. We are also making great progress on the Jane Welty Memorial patio garden. Thank you to each of these people. Mark your calendars. The next project day is Saturday March 22.

ARE YOU READY TO BECOME A MEMBER?

If you’ve been attending UUCH long enough to know that this church community feels like your spiritual home, you may be ready to take the next step and become a member of this congregation.

On April 20th (Easter Sunday) Rev. Ruth plans to welcome new members as they “sign the book” and officially join our church. If you are ready to become a member or would like to find out more about the process, please contact Pam Korb at membership@uuch.org by April 1st.

RIGHTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF MEMBERSHIP:

Because we are a democratic community, members are collectively vested with responsibility for the congregation. Members may vote at all congregational meetings, be elected to the governing Board, be appointed as committee chairs, and participate in all activities of the congregation.

Because we are a covenanted congregation, members have certain responsibilities to the congregation and to each other. These responsibilities are best fulfilled by:

  • Regular attendance at worship
  • Voting at congregational meetings
  • Making financial contributions
  • Contributing time and talent
  • Spiritual growth and development

Upcoming Social Justice Events

Your participation is needed! Below is a list of local social justice events sponsored by groups that UUCH and/or our members support.

Circle of Candles

Suzey DeLacey lit a candle of Joy and Sorrow: "Ben has been away from home for one year now. Weekly family therapy and weekly visitation is going well. We are hopeful."

Iris Black lit a candle of Joy and Sorrow: "I turned 67 on March 4th. I never believed I would live to see another year, so I am very thankful. My brother-in-law's memorial was on Sunday. Please keep my family in your thoughts."

Kathy Fisher lit a candle of Joy: "I am so happy to tell you, Doak Mansfield and I are engaged! We dated in the late 90's and have stayed close friends ever since. I am simply amazed at the rhythms of life!"

Little Food Pantry

Many of our neighbors and many unhoused people visit our LFP frequently. Consider buying a few extra cans of soup or veggies to contribute! For suggestions of what to donate (and what not to donate), check out this list: Pantry Food Items. Remember that many families don’t have the experience or the equipment to handle dried beans, and that the unhoused particularly benefit from cans that don’t require can openers. A little help from us can go a long way Please, if you are able to fill it up, please note your name in the Genius. Also, you can bring non- perishables to church, as there are baskets. A big thank you to all who do contribute!
