A partner central to our work and our new fiscal sponsor – Community Action Partnership Sonoma! |
Community Action Partnership of Sonoma County (CAP Sonoma) has been partnering with low-income families and individuals to help them achieve economic and social stability; to build community, and to advocate for social and economic justice since 1967 and has a rich history and strong allies here in Sonoma County.
CAP Sonoma began their efforts to create a path to economic security through a whole family, five-tiered approach after President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the Economic Opportunity Act in 1964 and funded Community Action Programs as a way of addressing national poverty.
Sonoma Connect | Sonoma Unidos is well-aligned with the history and current work of CAPS. We know that CAP Sonoma was originally born out of the Economic Opportunity Act funded programs and leadership of residents in the neighborhood being served. As the CAP website reads, “resident-led governance design gives people a voice and allows them a direct say in how their funds are to be spent and establish the top priorities.”
Sonoma Connect | Sonoma Unidos is excited to maximize and amplify CAPS work in the areas of services designed by community for community (amplifying community leadership and voices of populations being served), communities of practice (sharing learnings and best practices across nonprofit partners), and relationship building across sectors to maximized positive client outcomes.
Sonoma Connect | Sonoma Unidos has worked with CAP Sonoma to advance efforts within our network of care with the help of our Community Accountability Action Team Co-chair Rocio Monter, Community Based Service Manager at CAP Sonoma.
Last month CAP Sonoma became our new fiscal sponsor, and we are grateful to continue this work together!
Visit CAP Sonoma’s website to learn more about the essential services they provide to our community.
