CSU, NIFA seeking to strengthen relationship to promote equity and diversity

Central State University's Interim President Alex Johnson, Ph.D., and Morakinyo A.O. Kuti, Ph.D., CSU’s vice president for Research and Economic Development and director of the 1890 Land Grant Programs, met with Dr. Mangit Misra, director of the National Institute for Food and Agriculture (NIFA), and Dr. Michelle Samuel-Foo, chief of staff of NIFA in Washington, D.C., on Nov. 6, 2023, to discuss how NIFA and CSU can further collaborate to address societal issues related to food and agriculture.

Dr. Misra stated that NIFA understands that equity and diversity are the wings on which societal improvement must fly while reiterating support for 1890 Land-Grant universities such as CSU. Dr. Johnson noted that CSU was seeking NIFA support other than capacity funds. "We are interested in resources to enhance CSU’s infrastructure, including systems and additional personnel to increase operational capacity to fulfill our 1890 Land-Grant mission," Dr. Johnson said.

Dr. Kuti stated that CSU fully supports the 1890 Land-Grant universities' request for $5 billion for the Research Facilities Act in the U.S. Farm Bill and Center for Excellence Activities.
