SCHOOL PICTURE DAY IS WEDNESDAY!
Wednesday, September 28
Please plan to send your child in formal dress uniform on this day, to the best of your ability. We know that LandsEnd is still experiencing delays! If your child doesn't yet have all the components of formal dress uniform, don't worry -- their regular day uniform will be fine!
The Seedling School will also be having their Picture Day on Wednesday.
Racing Toward Construction
If you have been around Foothill for long, you know that "Hula Huts" are a thing here. This week in Mrs. Church's PE class, 5th grade practiced team work, coordination and speed as they raced toward a pile of hula hoops, constructed the structure, climbed through it, and raced back.
Rosh Hashana Celebrated in Foothill Community
We are grateful to our School's Jewish families for making presentations at each of our Community assemblies (formerly known as Chapel) this week.

Rosh Hashana is a two-day Jewish celebration of the New Year that literally translates to “head of the year” in Hebrew. It begins on Monday, September 26, and ends at sundown, Tuesday, September 27. It is celebrated with candle lighting, festive meals and prayers.

Our students were treated to honey sticks, as a token of a sweet new year!
Ask A Museum Day
Alf Museum of Paleontology
2nd Grade
Last Wednesday was “Ask a Museum Day,” and the Alf Museum of Paleontology reached out to us to see if our kiddos had any burning questions about dinosaurs or fossils, considering we’re taking 2nd grade is taking their first field trip of there year there next month. The Raymond Alf Museum is on the campus of The Webb Schools.

Mr. William's class submitted a slew of questions (every student asked at least one question) and the Alf Museum started answering them on their social media account the very next day! They got a lot of questions, so they couldn’t answer them all in one day, but they said they’d be putting out more videos every Wednesday until all of the questions have been answered. (As it stands, 9 out of the 10 questions that are currently posted were submitted by our class!)

It was a huge hit and the students loved seeing their questions answered on social media! We’re going to log on every Wednesday to see if more of our questions have been answered.

Check it out at the Alf Paleo Instagram where you can see the posted answers:

What's the Deal with Dismissal?
Changes Starting on Monday!
We are fine-tuning! Our app-based approach -(PikMyKid) to afternoon dismissal has begun to deliver on its promise of increasing a safe and efficient flow of traffic and shorter wait times for parents and caretakers.

Beginning Monday, September 26, we are enacting several adjustments:

  • Harrison Circle. PikMyKid app will have separate designations for carline and walk-ups. Click here if you would like to choose walk-up as your default dismissal choice.
  • 2nd Grade Dismissal Time Changed to 3:00pm.
  • 6th Grade students without K-5 siblings will be dismissed at the Towne Avenue Lot at 3:30pm. 6-8 Grade students with K-5 siblings will continue to be dismissed at Harrison Circle.
  • 7th and 8th Grade Families Arrive no earlier than 3:40pm.
  • 7th and 8th Grade Afterschool Sports must be picked up at Towne Avenue at 5:00pm.
  • Enrichment Classes Begin! K-8 students in Enrichment classes will be picked up at Harrison Circle at 5:00pm.

We thank you for supporting our efforts to make afternoon dismissal as safe and efficient a process as possible.
Classes begin this week!
Please review your child's after school schedule with them each day so they can join their new adventure with confidence!
2nd Adds Up!
Mrs. Martinez's class (also pictured at the top of this week's Notes) were smiling as they jumped in to math on the first day of school, exploring all the manipulatives as their disposal.
The Power in You!
And a Goat Too!
What does a Foothill student and a goat have in common? They each have the power to change lives for the better! For nearly 20 years, the Kenya Club has been working to impact the lives of people in the Ndeiya Valley in Kenya. From raising funds to bring running water to the village, to providing uniforms, books, and school supplies for preschoolers, Foothill students have a long history of helping. This year our focus will be to provide life sustaining goats to families in the Valley.

If students are curious and would like to know more, they are invited to join Mrs. Hammill and Mrs. Bone for our first Kenya Club meeting of the year!

8th Goes to the Farm
In their first outing of the new year, the Class of 2023 dressed in their formal dress uniform and took front row seats at A Noise Within in Pasadena. A Noise Within is one of the nation's premiere classical repertory theater companies. Our students saw Animal Farm, a musical adaptation of George Orwell's savage satire, described as "filled with biting humor and stunning timeliness". That also describes some of our 8th graders.
7th & 8th Grade Virtual High School Visits
Each year, Interim Director of Upper School, Mr. Shane Guilbert-Neal, coordinates a series of informational sessions from high schools interested in recruiting our students. These visits are designed to help students choose the right high school for them. Before we begin the process, Mr. Guilbert-Neal will be hosting a high school informational night:
Wednesday, September 28
Randall Lewis Auditorium
5:15p.m to 6:00p.m.

This meeting is exclusively for families of 7th and 8th grade students. During the meeting, he will be discussing this year's high school application process for independent day/boarding schools, parochial schools, and public high schools. Please complete the Google Form to RSVP:
Observation Stations
1st Grade
1st graders participated in some observation stations where they could touch and feel objects like coral, shells, fossils, plants and geodes. They also took time to check out our new fishies and aquatic snails! They had fun moving and observing! The newest resident of our science lab? A bearded dragon!
