Breakfast Club Volunteers

Needed THIS Saturday

This Saturday, Nov 25, the 4th Saturday volunteer team needs help. Very few of the team can be there and they are asking our help.

Anyone who can volunteer for Breakfast Club this Saturday (two days after Thanksgiving) please let Mary Abbott know by text (404-217-3614) or email (mawaite100@aol.com). The 4th Saturday team begins preparing at 9.00 a.m. and you'll be out for any football games on your agenda :) or by 11.45 to noon.

Supper Club Volunteers

Every Tuesday afternoon, Supper Club prepares and serves a hot meal to 60 people who are in need. Similar to Breakfast Club, this ministry provides a meal to individuals in a loving and respectful environment.

In 2024, similar to Breakfast Club, we are looking for people to volunteer on a rotational basis a few times a month. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Viveca Richards at 864-884-1206 or via email at viveca1956@gmail.com.

Donations accepted from now through Monday, December 11, 2023.

This year, Saint Mark is again proud to support Pride for Parents. We will collect toys through Monday, December 11, 2023 at Saint Mark or you can order directly off their Amazon and Target wish lists below. The December 11th deadline is so that they can pick up, sort, and price the toys before the store opens. The store will be officially open this year from December 14th to 23rd.

Pride for Parents is an opportunity for South Atlanta families to provide for their loved ones at Christmas. Toys and gifts area available to purchase at a reduced cost. Families from the neighborhood get to shop for that perfect toy for their loved ones. The revenue generated from the store goes right back to the community supporting affordable housing.

Toy donations are needed!

Guns to Gardens

Saturday, December 9, 2023 | 10 AM - 2 PM

Guns to Gardens - a safe surrender event – is hosted by Oakhurst Presbyterian Church, 118 Second Avenue, Decatur, GA 30030, on Saturday, December 9, 2023 – 10 am to 2 pm. Bring your unloaded firearm(s) stored in the truck of your vehicle, to be dismantled and sent to RAWTools to be made into garden tools.

Reasons to Participate

  • Guns are dangerous. 48,830 Americans died from gun-related injuries in 2021.
  • Having guns in the home leads to unintentional shootings.
  • There is a powerful link between rates of firearm ownership and suicide rates.
  • This is a trusted place to discard unwanted firearms without turning them back into the market.

If you are interested in volunteering, reach out to Sheri Barrera-Disler via phone or text at 678-592-9845 or via email at SheriBD1962@gmail.com. There will be a training for volunteers on Zoom on a date/time to be determined in the week prior to the event.

'God Be With You Till We Meet Again'

In what was a solemn day, members of the 2023 North Georgia Annual Conference ratified the disaffiliation agreements of 261 churches at a Special Called Session, Saturday.

Rev. Dr. Carolyn Stephens, vice chair of the Conference Board of Trustees, presented the motion to the Conference on behalf of the Board of Trustees, and the names of the churches requesting disaffiliation were read by their district superintendent.

A Thank You Note to The Children's Ministry

I will be forever grateful for the time spent serving the children's ministry of Saint Mark United Methodist Church. It has been one of the most transformative and rewarding periods of my life thus far, I have been afforded the opportunity to serve alongside some of God's finest! Seven years ago this church welcomed me with open arms, and I have watched these children blossom into extraordinary human beings. I appreciate how you went along with some of my quirky ideas and helped me make the necessary adjustments so that I could "get with the program." We even survived COVID-19 as we stayed connected through online ministry. Folks from far and near were able to partake of the authentic and unapologetic "Saint Mark Way."

Although no longer a member of the staff, I still consider myself to be a true "Saint Marker." And it was my pleasure to dress up as an "angel with a purple tutu" for the trunk or treat event. I'm sure this helped seal my winning first place. The new children's minister Madi Dunn is simply doing a fantastic job! Rest assured, the church is in good hands.

In closing, I take my hat off to the PARENTS and pray that the blessings of God continue to shine upon you!

Yours in Christ,

Pastor Sheila
