 Public Reception, April 24, 2014, 5:30 - 7:30 PM

Enjoy music by Lorenzo Gonzales and Patsy Urbina

Center for the Visual Arts,

400 E. Hickory St., Denton, TX 76201

Merging Visions is a collaborative exhibit of poetry and art sponsored by the Denton Poets Assembly (DPA) and the Visual Arts Society of Texas (VAST).  Since 2005, the two organizations have paired their works to form an exhibit each spring.   This year it will hang in the Meadows Gallery of the Center for the Visual Arts.  These works will be displayed in the gallery from April 24 - June 6, 2014 before many of the combined works move to the Denton branch libraries, June 13 - August 15. The exhibit is co-sponsored by the Greater Denton Arts Council and the Denton Public Library.

The public is invited to a free, opening reception from 5:30 to 7:30 PM on April 24th.  Music will be provided by internationally acclaimed Lorenzo Gonzales playing the Paraguayan harp accompanied by local flutist Patsy Urbina.  After the reception, Merging Visions can be viewed during regular CVA gallery hours, 1pm-5pm, Tues-Sun.

Held in April to honor National Poetry Month, the exhibit promotes the works of local poets and artists from these two organizations.  Sometimes a poet becomes inspired by a particular piece of visual art.  Occasionally an artist responds to an image conjured by the poet.  Most often the poems and art works come together based on an affinity of mood, sensibility and subject matter.  Both genres benefit by the cross-pollination of ideas and imagery.

Lorenzo Gonzales is a master harpist whose appearances include performances at the World Harp Festival in Asuncion, Paraguay, the National Independence Concert at the Paraguayan Embassy in Costa Rica, and the Grand Concert of Latin American Music at the White House for President Richard Nixon.  Love for his native country Paraguay and its music led him to design his own version of the Paraguayan harp.  His music has been described as "Utterly transporting, you will be swept away."  Patty Urbina, flutist, received her BA in Music from the University of North Texas and her Masters in Music Performance from the University of Texas in Austin.

Participating Artists Please Note:

INTAKE for Merging Visions Exhibit is Friday, April 11,
10:00 am - 12:00 noon, and from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm.

Good Morning Fellow Artists,

My  name in Natalia Margarita Dominguez and I am a elementary art teacher with FWISD as well as very active in the art community in the DFW. I have received the honor of being the ART Coordinator for ArtSI's 10 year anniversary show.

What is ArtSi? ArtSi is a silent auction art show that is put together by the Hispanic Women's Network of North Texas, Fort Worth Chapter. HWNT has a mentor group for young high school girls named "Latina's in Progress" in which we mentor the ladies by preparing them for college. At the end of the LIP year we present the ladies with scholarships that will help them start their college careers.

I need your help in making this year ArtSi a memorable one for the 'Latina's in Progress' ladies, HWNT and all the artists participating. If you are interested in donating an art work for our amazing cause, please contact me via email or call.

I look forward to working with you and bring scholarships to high school girls here in the DFW.  If you have any questions or comments, please email me to Natav[email protected].
