Hello to all of my happy readers!!!
I just can NOT believe it is September...What?!?!?!!? I am struggling through my days, which are full of appointments and meetings. I am so busy at the moment buying all of the gifts and books for the winter season. This almost feels like a
full-time job in and of itself. I also like to follow up this buying season with a really good dose of anxiety and self-doubt about all of the things that bought, and the cost and the burden. UGH! At least I know that this happens, and I can prepare my heart accordingly. On another note, I am so excited about the new items I have coming in. New goodies are arriving every single day.
This month is the celebration of my son, Tristan. My oldest is turning 21!! I can't believe it. He wanted to celebrate with us, and with his friends that still live here, so we are flying him in. His birthday is on September 25th.
This month, the PNBA Fall Tradeshow is September 19th–21st in Portland, OR. I am taking Jaycee once again, and we are going to have a blast and do some shopping for the store. This is one of my favorite events as a bookseller—for the tradeshow element of it, and also for the education, and for meeting all of the cool authors. The days are LONG and the show is wild. I will post pictures. Please check in on the crew that is staying and taking care of the shop.
We are so busy preparing for the holiday party, and deciding how best to celebrate the store's 34th anniversary. Keep a look out for updates about that. We have so many surprises in store for you!
I have worked so hard redesigning our website. Please take a look and check out what we are up to. Click here: Watermark Book Company Website!
For those following my crochet journey—it is going well. I am almost done making my tank top, and next I am going to make a steering wheel cover and a seatbelt strap cover. My seatbelt is constantly rubbing my neck in a mean way.
I finished Tom Lake, by Ann Patchett, and by-golly she has done it again. I so so so enjoyed this book. The best way for me to describe it is if Little Women took place during the Pandemic. Very nicely done. Most of it takes place in or around a play called Our Town, and so that caused me to want to read that as well... So Diane leant me a copy of Our Town, by Thornton Wilder. I will report back about that. I also started reading the original Psycho, by Robert Bloch, because...FALL! The movie is based on this book, and I am so excited to read it first and then watch the movie... which I have never seen. So far it is VERY good. Written in 1959, first published in the US in 2010...so here goes! I tried to listen to The Seven Year Slip, by Ashley Poston, and it was such a mess that I could not finish it. I really like time travel books, and I did not feel that this one followed very clear rules or guidelines, which are so necessary to do it well. I am also about halfway through listening to Shark Heart: A Love Story, by Emily Habeck. I almost stopped listening to it because it is soooo unusual, but now I am just mesmerized with the story and the way that she is telling it. It is about a husband and wife who are in love and living life as normal, and then the husband starts to experience very unusual symptoms. He is diagnosed with a very rare mutation. They have to struggle through this together and separately. I will report back next month.
This month, I will be reading September House, by Carissa Orlando—a good haunted tale of a couple that buys a home for a steal, and then, every September, the house experiences terrible hauntings. I am also going to read
Woman, Captain, Rebel: The Extraordinary True Story of a Daring Icelandic Sea Captain, by Margaret Willson. I am going to finish what I am listening to, and then listen to Vampires of El Norte, by Isabel Canas.
I leave for the Dominican Republic on the last day of September for one week with my hubby. We are going to just chill and catch some sun. Swim, read and eat. No kids, just us! Oh how nice!
Happy Reading and Stay Safe!
