Well. You don't need me to tell you that this month has been a rollercoaster. Like you, I am horrified by the extremist activist Supreme Court justices making ruling after ruling that will cost lives and undermine our freedoms guaranteed in the US Constitution. Like you, I'm worried about the trajectory of our country. Like you, I'm willing to fight for a country that gives voice to the voiceless, for a country that doesn't let corporate greed steal power from the marginalized. Like you, I will work for a country and for a California that works for all.
As we fight on, remember that this work for true equity & justice is a marathon, not a sprint. We're in this for the long haul. To that end, our team took a few weeks off after the non-stop work of the primary to replenish and regroup. My family and I went to the East Coast for an overdue visit to see family, explore DC, then soak up the sun, the lake, and enjoy a slower pace during a family reunion. While this fed my soul, I had a moment of guilt for taking this quiet time. But I was reminded that to be able to fight on, we must take care of ourselves. Self-care is SO important to sustain us in this fight - and I hope you're being kind to yourself as well. So take the time to mourn every aggrievance, then rise tomorrow to fight.
And now that we're back - rested, yet fueled with rage & sorrow - we are ready to return to the fight.
PRIMARY RESULTS:
In case you missed it - WE DID IT! While remaining returns will be released and the results officially certified tomorrow, we finished the primary with nearly 40% of the vote AND kept the incumbent to less than half the vote total. Our strong showing put the incumbent with the lowest vote total percentage out of all 15 Assembly Incumbents in LA County!
