Dear Mike,

The deadline to file an informal appeal on the 2022 State Mandated Reappraisal values is Monday, October 3rd.

There are three ways to file an informal appeal. First, you can do it online. This is the fastest and most convenient way. Information and the link to do so are HERE. Please do some research first. You will be asked for your estimate of value for your home and why that amount.

Not comfortable with the computer? You can call us and one of our deputy auditors or myself will take your appeal over the phone. Call 330-725-9758 or 330-725-9753. We will take the exact same information you can provide online.

Finally, you can come out to one of our in-person informal hearings throughout the county. They are all listed in the brochure you received with your value change notice and online. We want to address any questions and concerns you may have.

All value notices have now been mailed. If you haven't received yours, you may call the above numbers to find out your new value for 2023.

Taxes

We cannot tell you what your final taxes for 2023 will be until the state issues new tax rates in December. They will be less than what your value percentage increase is!

Tax bills with the new valuations will be mailed by the treasurer's office in January, 2023 and due in February. In past reappraisals, a 10% increase in value typically caused a 2 to 2.5% increase in taxes. For most people this computes out to about a 7% increase, or about $140 per half on a $2,000 per half current tax bill. These are just estimates! Some areas where the school districts have hit the 20 mill floor will see higher increases.

Questions? Please call or email. We want to address any concerns you may have.

Medina County Parks Kick Off Fall Hiking Program

Trekking Through Autumn is a self-guided hiking program that allows you to discover the beauty of autumn in the Medina County parks.

Back for its 16th year, Medina County Park District’s popular annual hiking program offers participants the opportunity to enjoy the splendor of the season and earn awards by completing at least eight designated hikes now through November 30.

Trekking Through Autumn offers a choice of 14 different hiking trails in parks and nature preserves that show off the beauty and natural diversity of Medina County. Included on the form is the Hiker’s Choice option. So, if a favorite Medina County Park District trail isn’t on the form, participants can add it to the list. Hikers complete the walks at their own pace and on their own schedules. Medina County park sites are open every day from 6 a.m. until one hour past sunset -- except Oenslager Nature Center, which is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays and noon to 5 p.m. on Sundays. The nature center is located in the Alderfer-Chatfield Wildlife Sanctuary, so please keep in mind that pets are not permitted at this site. Dogs on leashes are welcome at all other park locations.

To participate, pick up a Trekking Through Autumn form at Medina County Park District Headquarters, Oenslager Nature Center, or simply print one at www.MedinaCountyParks.com.

Check trails off the list as you complete them. When you’ve hiked eight or more, bring your completed form to Oenslager Nature Center by December 18 to claim your award (while supplies last).Participants who hike at least eight (8) of the designated trails will receive an award. Backpacks are awarded the first year, and hiking pins will be awarded for successive years. Awards are free for Medina County residents. Out-of-county residents pay $10 for the backpack and $3 for a hiking pin.

Vacant KMART Building in Medina Issued $12K in Fines

A Florida-based company was fined $12,000 on Tuesday for 12 separate charges regarding building-code violations and property violations for the now vacant Kmart building.

In February 2021, the city brought forward several code violations against Benderson Development Co. of University Park, Florida, for exterior property maintenance of the former Super Kmart building, 1105 N. Court St.

Medina Municipal Judge Gary Werner told the two men representing Benderson that the city requires property owners to keep the property up to code even if it's vacant, and that there was no excuse for allowing it to fall into disrepair.
