FDA approves Covid-19 vaccines for children under 5 |

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Food and Drug Administration recently approved the Covid-19 vaccination for children as young as 6 months.
This expands eligibility for vaccination to nearly 20 million additional children, making all Americans ages 6 months and older eligible for vaccination. The Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna vaccines are those approved for this younger age group. The CDC and FDA recommend that all children, including children who have already had Covid-19, get vaccinated.
Healthcare providers play an important role in vaccinating patients against viruses such as Covid-19. The CDC provides many resources to assist in conversations with parents, caregivers and patients. Covid-19 vaccines have undergone, and will continue to undergo, the most intensive safety monitoring in U.S. history, according to the CDC.

The goal of this course is for all care team members to learn engagement tools and skills, including basic motivational interviewing skills, for productive conversations with patients about their health.The care team member will build upon this foundation in order to apply their skills in different situations, such as Medication Assisted Treatment, (MAT) and palliative care. The objectives of this course are:
- Describe the patient-centered approach of motivational interviewing.
- Explain the conversation style that is the spirit of motivational interviewing.
- Demonstrate basic motivational interviewing skills.
- Discuss how to use patient language cues (change talk and resistance) in the application of motivational interviewing skills.
- Explain how to engage the patient in the four processes in motivational interviewing necessary for health behavior change.
- Identify barriers to patient engagement and behavior change.
- Identify how to make cultural adaptations to motivational interviewing.
This training is recommended for care managers who previously completed the Introduction to Team-Based Care training.
This particular course session is open to and free only for Patient-Centered Medical Home practices participating in the Physician Group Incentive Program through TPA. Attendance is limited!

TPA staff and board members work with the Michigan State Medical Society (MSMS) to stay abreast of and engaged in various areas affecting physicians.
