ST. LUKE'S HONORS PLEDGE ASSEMBLIES 2023

At St. Luke's, character education begins early and we teach our students that all choices have consequences. Our Honor Code addresses conducting ourselves honorably in an academic and social setting.

St. Luke's Honor Pledge:

"As a St. Luke's student, I will never lie, cheat, steal, intend to

deceive nor tolerate any of these acts."

“Honor isn’t something someone gives us, it is who we are, it is how we choose to live our lives, when we simply do what is right, just because it is right.”

The Honor Council Members explained to both campuses what the Honor Code means and then the Class of 2024 assisted each class with signing the Honor Pledge.

DISCOVERING JAPAN: A GUPTA FAMILY ADVENTURE

The Gupta family recently embarked on a six-day trip to Japan, where they visited the bustling cities of Tokyo and Kyoto. The family had always been intrigued by Japan, as it seemed to embody the perfect blend of Eastern and Western cultures. Throughout their trip, the family was struck by Japan's ability to embrace modern technology and innovation, while at the same time, preserving their traditions and family values.

St. Luke’s third grader, Rayan agreed that his trip to Japan was filled with exciting experiences, but his favorites were undoubtedly visiting the Cat Café and Hedgehog Café, and seeing the statue of Hatchi, the dog.  His favorite meal in Japan was definitely the crab fried rice.  Rayan was particularly impressed by the Japanese people's courteous and polite behavior, which made his stay even more enjoyable.

if you plan a trip to Japan, Ria (St. Luke’s senior) suggests learning a few basic Japanese words and phrases. Saying "please", "thank you", and "how are you" can go a long way in making communication easier with the locals. As for the attractions, Ria suggests visiting the Cat Cafe and riding on the bullet train, but perhaps skipping the Imperial Palace. The food in Japan is definitely a highlight and offers a unique culinary experience. Ria was also impressed by the locals' sophisticated sense of style.

St. Luke’s 9th grader, Raina was amazed at the sights and experiences she encountered in Japan. She was particularly impressed with how clean the country was despite its huge population. The Shibuya Sky was a personal favorite for Raina, as she enjoyed the stunning view it provided of the city. However, her most cherished memory from the trip was visiting the serene bamboo forest in Kyoto. The lush greenery and peaceful atmosphere of the forest left a deep impression on her.  Overall, Raina's trip to Japan was an unforgettable experience that left her with a newfound appreciation for the country's rich culture and natural beauty.

Overall, the Gupta family's trip to Japan allowed them to immerse themselves in a culture that values tradition, family, and innovation. They returned home with a newfound appreciation for Japan and its people and highly recommend it as a destination for anyone looking to experience the perfect blend of East and West!

STUDENT SPOTLIGHT:

CARTER SKIFIC IS OUT OF THIS WORLD COOL!

3-2-1- BLASTOFF! St. Luke’s 4th grader, Carter Skific, is passionate about space exploration and attended Space Camp at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama this summer. He says, “I love space and would like to become an astronaut one day.”

At first, Carter was nervous about going to camp because he did not know anyone, but as soon as he arrived his first impression was, “WOW,” and he became very excited. When asked what was the most surprising part of space camp, he said, “EVERYthing - in a good way!

Students get to participate in simulator missions (some were used in real astronaut training!)  Each student is assigned a different role and the goal is to launch the shuttle, meet up with the space station, and return home. However, during the mission, there are problems and the kids have to figure out how to work through them. Carter’s #1 favorite part of camp was his assigned mission: a rocket launch to pick up other astronauts staying on the moon. Carter was in mission control and had to ensure the life support was working correctly and monitor waste levels. That sounds stellar!

Carter slept in a bunk bed in a room called a "habitat," but prefers to call it a “dormitory” because that's what it actually is. The “dormitory” was called Orion. The campers were divided into groups; Carter’s group was called “Lupus.” They did something different every day. One day he walked in a harness that imitated the gravity of walking on the moon. Another day, he sat in a special chair that mimicked a spaceship out of control and had so much fun!

While Carter considers space camp out of this world, the food wasn’t as space-tacular. He would give the food a 6 out of 10. He says, “Some of the meals weren’t the best in the world, but some were good.”

If a student wants to attend space camp, Carter advises them not to spend all their snack money in the gift shop on the second day like he did. He explains, “You should wait until your parents pick you up and then go to the gift shop and ask them to buy things for you.” We totally agree with you, Carter!

Carter had such a fantastic experience that after a trip around the sun, he wants to return to the Robotics Camp or Space Camp again.

We are over the moon excited about Carter’s space camp experience and hope he always reaches for the stars!
