A Word from Our Pastor

Dear Friends in Christ,

Yesterday I received a call from a newer member of the FUMC Coppell family in response to his first experience of FaithWorks Weekend. He indicated how inspirational it was to see Christians of all ages working together to put their faith to work! Amen to that! Together this is what you all accomplished over the past few days:

  • Provided lunches and encouragement to some 50 local first responders
  • Blessed dozens of families in need through volunteering at the CCA Food Pantry
  • Prepared lunch for the educators of Wilson Elementary
  • Read with and encouraged some 40 area children
  • Gave 20+ units of blood
  • Mailed Care Packages for 25+ FUMC related college students
  • Assisted Piecemakers in stuffing dozens of pillows for area cancer patients
  • Provided and prepared 10,000 meals through “Rise against Hunger” for the people of Madagascar and Haiti
  • Fed 300+ friends at the Austin Street Shelter
  • Provided a ton (literally) of food and personal hygiene items to restock the pantries of CCA and Metrocrest

Here are a few random photos of your service:

Thanks be to God and to you for the many ways that you are the hands and feet of Christ in this community and beyond. Kuddos to Mission Team chair Leslie Hicks and Pastor Beth Kellner for their leadership and support. Amazing things happen when God’s people respond to the Good Call of Christ Jesus. Let’s continue this journey Sunday at Rise Up (8 a.m.), Modern (9 a.m.) or Traditional (11 a.m.). See you then if not before!

Yours gratefully in Christ,

Pastor Tom

Coppell Cares helps families and individuals in our community who have needs driven by financial challenges. Every few weeks we will share a story of some assistance that Coppell Cares has provided.

We received a call from a counselor at one of the Coppell ISD elementary schools about a kindergartener who was in need of an Epipen. After an ambulance ride and a hospital visit due to serious food allergies, the family was in need of resources to pay for another doctor’s appointment and to pay for the Epipen prescription. Coppell Cares stepped in and followed up with the mom to try to find the Epipens and the needed medical appointment. After quite a bit of research and coordination, (and a three hour wait at the doctor’s office and a two hour pharmacy trip), we finally got the Epipens. That sweet little kindergartner had to be so tired! He now has one to keep at home and one to keep at school. We will continue to work with the family to find a longer term solution to their medical needs.

Our September Mission of the Month is the Austin Street Center. Your monetary donations will be used for needed items such as: coffee, underwear, trash bags, and sheets.Make checks payable to FUMC with memo “Austin Street” or you can TEXT 2 GIVE. Text to 73256 with subject line as FUMCC. You will receive a link and simply follow the instructions.

Also, the Austin Street Center team is in need for volunteers on our once a month or every other month teams.  During your scheduled time you provide 24 sandwiches, 24 hard boiled eggs, and 24 pieces of fruit. Currently we are delivering breakfast and not serving due to Covid but when we get back to serving you will travel to Austin Street three times a year on Saturday morning to serve breakfast to the Austin Street clients. This is a wonderful and very rewarding family opportunity to serve. If you can help with all or any of the volunteer tasks please contact Fawn Marshall at fawniece@gmail.com.

Planning has started for the 2023 Costa Rica Mission Trip and we need you on the team to make it happen!  The trip will be the week of Coppell ISD’s spring break, which is the week of March 13. The trip is open to all adults, high school students, and middle school students (accompanied by a parent or guardian). The cost of the trip is expected to be approximately $1,500 per person and we have scholarship funds for youth participants.

Metrocrest Homeless Alliance Presentation

Did you know that the number of homeless in the Metrocrest area (Coppell, Carrollton, Farmers Branch and Addison) has more than doubled in the last two years? Do you want to understand more?

The Metroplex Homeless Alliance is an alliance that kicked off in April of this year and is made up of community leaders, including police, fire and EMS, and a few churches. It was formed to discuss what homelessness looks like in the Metrocrest area (Coppell, Carrollton, Farmers Branch and Addison) and what we, as a community, see as strategies to effectively respond. The group is in the process of identifying community expectation - with follow-up meetings to include homeless response organizations and volunteers/advocates to focus on the “how” and the “what.”

Please plan on joining us on October 16 at 10 am in Wesley Hall to hear this presentation from Melanie Meijering with Metrocrest Social Services.

Caregiving Heroes Meeting

Next meeting at 10 am on Saturday, October 1 in the library. Contact Marilyn Horton at 214-728-5934 for more information. All are welcome.
