Hey there, incredible volunteers!
As we gear up for a new season and the school season starts buzzing with excitement, it's time for me to wave goodbye to my AmeriCorps VISTA service year with HandsOn NWNC. Can you believe it? A whirlwind of gratitude, pride, and a sprinkle of bittersweet feelings washes over me as I look back on what we've embarked upon over the past year.
From the very first high-five (or virtual fist bump), I knew this was no ordinary adventure. This community's dedication to community and service has been nothing short of heartwarming, and an absolute inspiration. Together, we've faced challenges, rolled up our sleeves, and put in the elbow grease to create ripples of positive change throughout the Northwest North Carolina region.
HandsOn NWNC is a force to be reckoned with, and you, friends, are the stars! Your dedication to crafting a more resilient, robust community is a shining beacon that lights the way for everyone around. Thank you for letting me hop aboard your volunteering journey! 🌟🎉

Yours in service,

Joy Prom is a full-scale community sponsored prom for guests with different abilities and special needs ages 16 and above. Joy Prom is an opportunity to build unity by celebrating the beauty in all our uniqueness and by showing love and support to some of the most special members of our community. Senior Services
Opening Minds Through Arts (OMA) is an intergenerational evidence-based intervention that pairs volunteers with older adults living with dementia. Volunteers work with Senior Services' participants as partners to create abstract art projects that engage the mind and break through cognitive barriers for a new level of expression.
Typically, each OMA cohort runs for 11 weeks. Volunteers participate in one training session for the first week and then spend the next 10 weeks working directly with participants to create art. No art skills required. Training is September 7 from 1 pm-2:30 pm and the following 10 weeks will be each Monday at 10:30 am.
