California Opens New Investigation Into Kaiser Mental Health as Complaints Surge in Strike


The California Department of Managed Health Care has opened a targeted enforcement investigation into whether Kaiser Permanente is providing timely access to appointments during a strike by its mental health clinicians, the agency told The Sacramento Bee on Wednesday. Over a six-day period from Aug. 15-20, the state department’s help center received 19 complaints from people who said they were not able to get access to mental health services.

The Director of Workforce and Education (DWE) will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and is responsible for the collaborative management, development, and implementation of the California Association of Peer Supporters (CAPS) Academy, the statewide collaboration with MHAC, Mental Health Association of San Francisco (MHA-SF) and Project Return Peer Support Network (PRPSN). The DWE will bring programmatic innovation to this new statewide collaboration. The DWE will supervise the MHAC Workforce and Education team and will also be responsible for the management and implementation of other MHAC contract deliverables and community partnerships as

developed.

Experiential Crisis Intervention Training: What's Going on & How to Help When There is Racial & Community Trauma 


This half a day crisis intervention training introduces participants to crisis intervention skills with an emphasis on providing effective racial and community-centered responses. Rather than traditional trauma-informed strategies, this training aims to focus on racial and community trauma in marginalized communities adding a self-exploration component to increase self-awareness and create the basis to be a more culturally responsive practitioner.



Join Dr. Kristee Haggins is a community healer, African centered psychologist, professor, and consultant with expertise in Black racial stress and trauma. For nearly twenty years, Dr. Haggins served as the Associate Director of Training and Community Outreach at Student Health and Counseling Services, UC Davis, where she was also an Adjunct Professor in African and African American Studies. Dr. Haggins is a former member of the CIBHS Health Equity Team where she worked for five years. Currently, Dr. Haggins is an Associate Professor in the College of Psychology at California Northstate University. She is also a founding member and Executive Director of Safe Black Space, a developing non-profit focused on helping Black people heal and thrive in the face of anti-Blackness and racism. In addition, Dr. Haggins is on the Board of Directors for the California Black Health Network (CBHN) and is the President of the Greater Sacramento Chapter of the Association of Black Psychologists.
