Gateway Development Corporation Formally Takes Reins As Official Sponsor


After being named Project Sponsor, the Gateway Development Corporation can now move forward on the Hudson River tunnel project and new CEO Kris Kolluri can also execute certain agreements and contracts for the Tunnel and other related infrastructure. The projects are expected to now be completed in 2035.

Cooper Unveils Decade Long Expansion


Cooper University Health Care will be in building mode for the next decade. The hospital system is expanding its Camden campus to the tune of $2 billion. When finished, the hospital will have three new clinical buildings and about 100 additional private rooms.  

New Jersey American Water Gets New Rate Structure


New Jersey American Water is expected to again invest $400 million in infrastructure improvements in 2023. They follow $985 million in previous capital construction expenditures.


The utility was also granted a $45.5 million revenue increase across its 2.7 million customers in the state.

Atlantic City Gets Infrastructure Infusion 


Atlantic City is receiving an additional infusion of $60 million in funding from the State of New Jersey for new infrastructure improvements.


Among infrastructure work to be funded:


• $9 million for infrastructure project to improve drainage along Route 40,

• $5 million to install surveillance cameras across the city to improve public security, 

• $3.9 million for public work projects, 

• $1 million for boardwalk repairs and another $1 million to expand the boardwalk,

• $3 million to help improve the energy efficiency of local buildings, and 

• $5 million to help the city apply for a federal grant to help control flash flooding.

GISI Acquires Hill International


Hill International, Inc. has entered into a definitive merger agreement with Alliance for Action member Global Infrastructure Solutions Inc. (GISI), which is the largest privately owned construction manager in the commercial building, industrial and healthcare markets. The merger when completed will make Hill a privately held company under the GISI banner. 

New Superfund Site Is Stretch Of Hackensack River


New remediation opportunities will come as a 25-mile stretch of the lower Hackensack River from Oradell to Newark Bay has been added to the list of Superfund sites. More details will be released soon.

HARTZ Mountain Proposes Massive Warehousing in Roxbury


Secaucus-based Alliance for Action member Hartz Mountain Industries is planning to redevelop the former Hercules property in Roxbury Township, after submitting plans to the Roxbury Planning Board. The proposal calls for a five-building, 2.5 million-square-foot commercial warehouse property. Additional construction opportunities will include affordable housing and a series of park biking and other trails on the 820-acre site.

Murphy Supports Turnpike Extension; Alliance for Action Joins In Support



Plans for the reconstruction and widening of the New Jersey Turnpike Newark Bay Extension are moving forward after getting a public endorsement from Governor Murphy. The Alliance for Action also forcefully added its support of the $4.7 billion project when speaking at the recent NJ Turnpike Authority Board meeting.  


South Jersey Transportation Authority Gets FHWA Grant


The South Jersey Transportation Authority is moving forward on an $8.7 million grant from the Federal Highway Administration for its Smart and Connect Atlantic City Expressway Project. Funding comes from a Congestion Management Technologies Grant. This could allow ACE to become one of the first truly “smart roads” in the state.

SDA Moves On School Projects


The New Jersey School Development Authority (SDA) is acting quickly on $1.55 billion in projects funded in this year’s State FY ‘23 Budget. There will be a total of 16 school projects in 13 different municipalities. They include new school projects in Newark, Trenton and Perth Amboy.

Liberty Science High School Plans Unveiled


The Hudson County Schools of Technology’s Liberty Science High School is now moving forward, with development by the Hudson County Improvement Authority. The 98,000 square foot school will be four stories and will house up to 400 students. The school is a joint project  between the Hudson County Schools of Technology and Jersey City. It is the first project in what will eventually be $300 million to be spent on Jersey City’s Sci-Tech City.

PEOPLE AND COMPANIES ON THE MOVE


Dr. Zenon Christodoulou, a business leader and part-time professor at William Paterson University, is the newest member of the Board of Public Utilities. He replaces former Commissioner Upendra Chivukula.


Ralph LaRossa officially became president and chief executive officer of Public Service Enterprise Group on Sept. 1, 2022 and he will become PSEG board chair on January 1, 2023.


Boswell Engineering announced Michael Brescia, P.E. has been named the firm’s Executive Vice President.


Anthony J. “Skip” Cimino, senior managing director of Stevens & Lee Public Affairs, has been appointed to the Capital City Redevelopment Corp. (Trenton) board of directors by Gov. Phil Murphy. The CCRC is a New Jersey state agency charged with facilitating redevelopment in the Capital District of the city of Trenton.


Stephen Barry has been appointed executive vice president of facilities management and real estate development at RWJBarnabas Health. He joins the system after an 18-year stint at Rendina Healthcare Real Estate.


Genova Burns partner Harris S. Freier will expand his practice and Chair the Firm’s Privacy & Cybersecurity Practice.


Valerie Marchi is now the General Manager of Alliance member JM Ahle.

 

Snehal Patel, PE, CPM has joined Michael Baker International as Associate Vice President and Head of Engineering. He had been the Assistant Commissioner of Capital Program Management at NJDOT.


Nicole Pace-Addeo has been promoted to Public Outreach Director at Stokes Creative Group.
