Light in the Window - May 3, 2022
Dear Covenant Family,
I’ve been doing a lot of walking lately as we visit with our youngest son in England and Wales. Some of it has been leisurely, on the wonderful public paths that exist in the Cotswolds. Other paths, in Snowdonia National Park in North Wales, have been more rugged. Each day my fitness watch has registered between 15,000 and 30,000 steps. Today as we pack up to fly out of London, I find myself so grateful to be returning to the church community at Covenant. You have been on my mind and in my heart throughout this trip and I have prayed for God’s continued guidance for all of us.
It was supposedly St. Augustine who uttered that famous phrase- It is solved by walking, and throughout my life I have found it to be true. As long as I am able, I will walk out my problems, walk and listen to God, walk and pray, walk and pay attention to what is around me. In these first few months at Covenant, I hope I can establish a pattern of a daily walk around campus, just 20 minutes or so, but enough to practice this spiritual discipline amidst the beautiful surroundings and people of University Circle. Maybe I can even get across the street to the labyrinth at UH, where my husband found Augustine’s words in the pavement on the night of rehearsal for Maundy Thursday.
There are many verses about walking in the Bible, but Micah 6:8 is one of my favorites-
He has told you, human one, what is good and
what the Lord requires from you:
to do justice, embrace faithful love, and walk humbly with your God.
Write me a note about your favorite places to walk, or the ways your faith has grown walking humbling with God.
Solvitur Ambulando,
Pastor Jessie
