Montgomery Board Recognizes Atrevete Confections As First 'Illinois Maker' in the Village

Montgomery, Illinois – Two months ago, Governor JB Pritzker announced the 2022 Illinois Maker class, featuring 30 Illinois small businesses and makers creating one-of-a-kind products contributing to making Illinois a great place to live and explore. On that list is the award-winning local patisserie and coffee shop, Atrevete Confections. At the Village of Montgomery Board Meeting on Monday, January 23, 2023, Mayor Matt Brolley and the Executive Director of the Aurora Convention & Visitors Bureau presented the owner and French-trained pastry chef, Jacqueline Mejia, her official award and plaque from the State of Illinois.

In his 2022 Illinois Makers class announcement, Governor JB Pritzker stated, "Here in Illinois, we have it all: stunning wood carvings, mouthwatering pastries, and the most delicious barbeque in the nation—all thanks to our small businesses." Mejia and her team are making those mouthwatering pastries he is referencing in downtown Montgomery. Recently, they expanded their menu to include made-to-order crepes. Atrevete Confections is the first Montgomery business to receive recognition in this program made possible by the Illinois Office of Tourism and only the fifth in the entire region spanning Kane and Kendall Counties.

The presentation occurred at Montgomery Village Hall (200 N. River St.) in the Village Board Room.
