Rockway Elementary School Green Pledge

Congratulations to Mrs. Jimenez, her students, and the Green Team for submitting the first green pledge for 2023-2024!

A 'green pledge' helps a school to share their goals for the year with their community. Successful Green Teams involve facilities staff and PTSAs as well. Teams hold team meetings, report progress, and submit entries for GSC.

Opportunities for Students

The Children’s Trust Youth Advisory Committee - Central “Greener Miami”

The Children’s Trust Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) is the youth voice comprised of high school students from across Miami-Dade County, who attend regular meetings, and training throughout the school year that focus on fostering leadership, advocacy, and service to the community. The youth earn a small grant from The Children’s Trust to lead a service learning project in their community. YAC has 6 branches (West, Kendall, South, Far South, North and Central).

YAC Central’s main goal aside from educating youth and giving them the skills to plant and garden was also to educate them about food scarcity in their city and how simple skills like planting and proper garden maintenance can help combat food scarcity in their communities. The secondary outcome is that these students with the help of The Children’s Trust and YAC have created a community garden that can be utilized for years to come. Interested in learning more?
