Important Information About Out of State,
For-Profit Virtual Learning Providers
Conducting school during a pandemic taught us many things and one of those is the importance of students being inside our classrooms, face to face with their teachers and peers. Quite simply, we have seen that the large majority of students thrive best academically, socially and emotionally in the seated learning environment. Virtual learning can be a strong learning tool, but it is not a good fit for all students.
Below is information we wanted to share ahead of the implementation of new legislation that allows out-of-state for-profit virtual learning providers the opportunity to market their services to your family. These for-profit providers:
- Do not provide the same support that students get while attending in-person school in Republic. We fear struggling students (academically, socially and emotionally) will not get their needs met.
- Employ teachers who do not spend their dollars in our local community.
- Will not have a curriculum built by local educators which match our values and standards.
- Funnel local tax dollars to large out-of-state for profit companies.
As our mission indicates, our priority is to prepare our students to be successful in their future. We do not believe these for-profit virtual providers share the same mission. Republic School District continues to be a top performing district in the state implementing best practices in our classrooms, helping students grow academically and investing in the social and emotional needs of our students and employees. We are #RepMOProud of the educational experience we provide!
The goal in sharing this information is to make sure you have the facts about these for-profit virtual providers prior to receiving any marketing materials about their programming.
