FACES OF PESA: Monserrath Ramirez

New staffer empowers communities through passion and purpose

In the world of social media, newsletters, and captivating graphic designs, there is a driving force behind PESA's engaging content and innovative visuals: Monserrath Ramirez. As PESA's Social Media Specialist, Ramirez combines her love for journalism, fashion, and community empowerment to make a difference.

Ramirez's path to PESA began at California State University, Long Beach (CSULB), where she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and a minor in Fashion Merchandising in 2022. During college, she demonstrated her commitment to the community by becoming the Social Media Director and Social Networking Coordinator for Hermanos Unidos, a non-profit organization. Creating safe and vibrant spaces online and offline became her passion.

Her role at PESA is a blend of creativity and analysis. As the Social Media Specialist, Ramirez crafts captivating posts for platforms like Instagram and TikTok while diving into metrics like target audience engagement, follower growth, and community interests. Ramirez's duties are expansive, reflecting the multifaceted nature of working within a non-profit, as she contributes to PESA's newsletter committee, assists in planning events, collaborates on video projects, and is actively involved in developing a new department within the organization.

What truly resonated with Ramirez about PESA was the organization's focus on humanitarian work. Her desire to create positive change aligns seamlessly with her journalistic background and her lineage of educators. With a grandmother who was an educator in Mexico and a mother who is a current teacher, Ramirez's connection to empowering educators runs deep, mirroring PESA's mission.

Looking forward, Ramirez envisions expanding PESA's brand awareness across diverse communities. She wants individuals, particularly marginalized students, to know that PESA is a supportive resource available to them. And as a young professional who found her passion early on, Ramirez understands the struggles with navigating career paths. Her advice to youth interested in creative fields is simple: "Just do it, be you, and don't let fear hold you back." She encourages them to embrace change and follow their passions, just as she has.
