FUNDING & OTHER OPPORTUNITIES

Application deadline: October 21 (extended)

Nucleate's "Activator" program is designed for next-generation bioentrepreneurs and aligns scientists and MBA students interested in launching a venture with a facilitated self-matching process. Program benefits include mentorship, direct feedback, and network building.

Application deadline: October 23, 11:59 pm

This competition is designed to provide students and trainees with early-stage ideas to compete for cash prizes! More importantly, participants will gain access to the LaunchPad program on their campus, to get the support on their entrepreneurship journey and skill-building. This signature program supports LaunchPad’s goal in de-risking entrepreneurship, broadening accessibility, and diversifying engagement with a focus on recruiting underrepresented and under-resourced students to participate.

Application deadline: October 28, 5:00 pm

The program is overseen by the Eli and Edythe Broad Institute for Regeneration Medicine and Stem Cell Research with training slots available on a competitive basis to trainees proposing stem cell and gene therapy projects across the UCSF campus. Applications are drawn from a large variety of graduate and professional programs, departments, and campus-wide discovery/translational/clinical science programs spanning a spectrum of disciplines including stem cell biology, developmental biology, gene therapy, cell engineering, tissue engineering, synthetic biology, systems biology, immunology, translation, clinical trials and more.
The Program for Breakthrough Biomedical Research (PBBR) seeks to stimulate and support highly innovative basic science research at UCSF. The focus is on basic science projects of potentially high impact that are creative, risky, and transformative. We seek novel ideas for basic science projects that go beyond those that receive funding from NIH and other traditional funding mechanisms.

Proposal deadline: Friday, November 4, 2022 5:00 pm PDT

NFR - New Frontier Research - $25,000 - $150,000 for one year
• Supports basic science research projects at levels of risk and innovation that substantially exceed those
supported by NIH; multiple awards annually
• Both single-PI and multiple-PI applications are welcomed

TMC - Technologies, Methodologies & Cores - $50,000 - $500,000 for one year in matching funds
• Strong emphasis on invention and development of new technologies, methodologies, and/or establishment of
technology cores and acquisition of shared instruments; multiple awards annually
• Both single-PI and multiple-PI applications are welcomed

Please send inquiries to Linda Reilly, PBBR Program Manager.

Total grant amount: $495,000 over 3 years
Pre-proposal deadline: November 11, 12:00pm

The CSDA supports physician scientists at the Assistant Professor rank and who are conducting clinical research, including research on any disease area, health outcomes, or health services.
Application deadline: November 14, 2022

Objective of the grant: Provide “seed” opportunities for faculty, researchers, and trainees that have research needs involving biomechanics and/or exercise testing of which the HPC can provide and might lead to future funding.  Proposals with novel ideas as well as proposals that are an add-on to a current research study will be considered if the goal is to acquire pilot data for possible future funding.
