This winter the Hyde Park Teacher's Association (HPTA) helped raise money for the public libraries in the Hyde Park Central School District (HPCSD) service area which includes the Clinton Community Library, Hyde Park Library and Staatsburg Library with Read Across Hyde Park. This was an online, event similar to a virtual 5k where donors pledge to reading a book for each donation received. The goal was to reach 150 books read over the course of the 2 months the fundraiser took place. Thanks to the generous donations of the teachers, staff, school & library community the event raised a significant amount of money to be divided evenly among the 3 libraries to support programming.
|
Lorraine Rothman, Staatsburg Library director said, “We are honored to work with the teachers, administrators and students in the HPCSD throughout the year in many different ways. We greatly appreciate the support of the school community and the opportunities to work together on programs to help enhance learning opportunities beyond the classroom.”

Suppress Items: The MHLS cataloging department will suppress all items that have a status of ‘Lost & Paid’, ‘Discard’ or ‘Claims returned’, which have not been updated for 3 months, in the third week of June. The items will not be deleted. Changing the annual report code to “n – suppress”, simply keeps them from displaying in the public catalog. This was approved by the Directors Association (DA) in June of 2015.

Updates from Hunger Solutions NY on Summer Meals and WIC: Waivers that were in place for several years during the pandemic are expiring at the end of June, which means fewer sites will be eligible to operate. Beginning in early July, there will be a list and map of site locations posted on SummerMealsNY.org. Libraries are encouraged to consider serving as a summer meal site or offering meals/snacks alongside summer programming or consider partnering with an established site to bring Summer Reading and Learning activities to kids and families. Libraries with questions about eligibility or participation should reach out to Krista Hesdorfer, krista.hesdorfer@hungersolutionsny.org.
New York Library Association (NYLA) is hosting a webinar on how libraries can alleviate hunger amid COVID-19 with Hunger Solutions NY on June 22nd at 11:00 am. Even if you are unable to attend please still register for the event to receive follow-up resources.

No Kid Hungry’s Center for Best Practices has created a space just for libraries. Learn more about each program and how libraries can share their strengths to increase access to healthy food in their communities. ACTION REQUIRED: The Collaborative Summer Library Program (CSLP) recently learned that on one occasion, the experience in the 2022 Manual entitled " Hold My Water: Water Pods and Water Bottles" [on page 202-204] led to a number of children becoming sick after they ingested the water pods. CSLP asks that you please remove the "Hold My Water: Water Pods and Water Bottles" experiment from your manual. View CSLP’s safety disclaimer and waiver of liability.
