Matthew 25:1-13 (Amos 5:18-24, Psalm 70, 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18) - St. Armands Key Lutheran Church

"Keep awake!" admonishes Jesus at the conclusion of today's parable. Yet, the wise bridesmaids fell asleep alongside the foolish ones. Sleepiness is not the main issue. Instead, the focus seems to be on preparedness. The wise ones took advantage of the delayed return of the bridegroom to ensure that they had an extra supply of oil at hand.

"Angel Tree” Christmas Gifts

Benefiting Lutheran Services Florida Guardianship Program

The Angel Tree is coming soon and we are asking for your help! SAKLC, through its Community Service Ministry, is again participating in the Angel Tree Project to benefit clients in the Lutheran Services Florida Guardianship Program. Through your generosity, we will provide Christmas presents for 50 people in need. The Guardianship Program assists people who range from young adults to senior citizens who are unable to care for themselves. Case managers ensure that they live in safe environments, receive appropriate care, and help manage their finances. Your gifts will help to provide a warm and happy Christmas for them.

The Angel Tree will be on the wall in the narthex (near the Welcome Desk) beginning Sunday, November 12. Each angel tag will include a number, the name of the individual, and their desired gifts. Simply take as many angels as you wish to sponsor. Then write your name and phone number next to the corresponding angel number/name on the clipboard sign-up sheet nearby. After purchasing your items, wrap them and return them to the church office no later than Wednesday, December 6. Thank you in advance for your generous support.

AV Task Force Update

It is often noted that time passes by quickly, and that has never been truer than for the SAKLC AV Technology Task Force. We started our journey in March and finalized our recommendations for the church leadership in October. We wish to thank the congregation for their valuable input through our two surveys – the What’s Cool Survey and the AV Task Force Technology Survey. You provided us with a wealth of information that we were able to incorporate into the recommendations. From the beginning, we stated that our work was to help you, our SAKLC members, by enhancing and improving your worship experience through the aid of technology. We are grateful for your participation in this journey.

To conclude the work of the Task Force, we met with the Church Council on October 24 to present our findings, along with a series of recommendations for future technology implementation. Being sensitive to costs, we presented a phased-in approach to guide the Council in future budget planning. We thank the Council for their consideration and for advancing these recommendations. The journey has been an interesting one. On behalf of every member of the Task Force – “Thank You to our SAKLC family”. Click the links below to see a summary of the recommendations and the survey summary.

Salvation Army Bell Ringing

November is here, so our seventh year of Salvation Army Kettle ringing will be here before you know it. Pastor Ken mentioned in a recent sermon that we should not just sit in the pew on Sunday but get up and volunteer for a worthy cause to help others. Here's an opportunity! Please sign up for a two-hour shift of "ringing the bell" for the Salvation Army's Christmas Kettle. The sign-up sheet will be in church on Sunday November 5th. Please volunteer for a shift or, even better, for multiple shifts. Could you be a five-star ringer? We actually have a few ringers that surpass that goal.  This year, we will be filling four weeks of ringing; I’m counting on you to meet the challenge. Listen for the bells in the narthex. Scan the QR code to sign up! Thank you, Jane Wittlinger

A Musical Holiday Treat on Dec 5

Each year, the ELCA sponsors the "Good Gifts " program. These gifts are sent to families around the globe with the dual goal of helping to provide nourishment for the family, and also giving them a long-term source of income.

This year, SAKLC's Music Ministry is seeking to raise $2,500 for this program which will support the donation of honeybees, a family farm, a cow, school supplies for a classroom, a community fish farm, and more.

As money is given for this project, additional favorite Christmas carols will be added to a special concert given on December 5th at 7:00pm - performed by SAKLC musicians.
