Let's Celebrate our Heritage!  
           

Beginning June 2014, Immigrant Heritage Month has allowed individuals of all ethnic bac k grounds to celebrate cultural diversity all across the  United States.  As we step into the ending of this month, let us continue this celebration of diversity and embrace the differences that ultimately make us whole as a nation.  

Shout Out to Camilia Razavi and Kayla Razavi for being honored with the inaugural Immigrant Leadership Awards as Youth Leaders at the SF Immigrant Rights Commission on June 12th!

A New Mold of Humanity:
IAWF is honored to support  the  " Freedom Sculpture "
 
           
Farhang Foundation, a non-profit cultural organization, has raised
$2.2 million in the building of the  "Freedom Sculpture"
in the heart of Los Angeles. This public monument is inspired by the humanitarian vision of freedom as well as unity among all people, regardless of race, nationality, or cultural background. This sculpture has more than a million supporters from 50 different nations and is among one of the most widely supported public monuments in American history. 
The Freedom Sculpture will be officially exhibited in a citywide celebration this upcoming Fourth of July.

Maria Afsharian was born in Shiraz to an American mother and Iranian father. She moved to Texas when she was 10 years old and attended local schools and university, earning a BS in Business Communications with an emphasis in Public Relations and Journalism. She moved to the Washington, DC area where she worked for USA TODAY and Dateline NBC. Maria worked on over 90 stories and was the recipient of 7 prestigious journalism and broadcast awards including a national Emmy Award. In 2005, Maria returned to Iran and persuaded MAHAK Charity for pediatric cancer to expand its award-winning services to Shiraz, where she founded the first MAHAK Charity Social Workers Office.

Northern California

Sima Talai inspires those around her with her work ethic and her knack for connecting people. Along with raising two successful sons, she has worn many hats. Her varied work experience includes owning a retail boutiques, working as an event planner and consultant, and managing an enormous furniture and design showroom at the SF Design Center finally currently she is with Berkshire Hathaway home services. Having said that, she's truly found her calling in helping the underprivileged, particularly children. She has cooked meals and serves food at Glide Memorial, she serves on the board of multiple non-profit organizations, and is currently serves on the advisory board of Moms Against Poverty.

Southern California

Born and raised in Iran, Elahe Tabesh is a proud graduate from the University of Tehran with a degree in Geology. In US she attended Syracuse University in Upstate New York, Graduated with MS and PHD Focused on Information Science and Geology. She started her professional career in Oil and Gas, later switches to Aerospace Industry and Information Technology. She worked in major aerospace companies; NASA, Boeing and Raytheon at leadership and management capacity for more than 10 years. 
Past few years She has 
been providing consulting services to High Tech companies and Startups. She has taught in various colleges and universities in Iran and in the United States of America.

With more than 25 years of experience in architecture and engineering design, Mojgan is an Associate at Danielian Associates, an award winning Architecture and Planning design firm in Orange County, CA established almost 50 years ago. As Sr. project manager, Mojgan is the key point of contact with the client and design team, responsible for directing and coordinating all aspects of the construction documents. Mojgan is currently focusing her efforts on Danielian's growing multifamily, mixed-use residential and affordable housing projects. Most recently she led the team on "Clark Commons workforce housing" project in Buena Park CA, winner of the "Affordable Housing Award" for 2016 Development of the year. She also managed the mixed use "Residences at Westgate" in Pasadena which received the 2016 SOCAL Awards for best Architectural designed Multi Family. Her new "Veterans Transitional Housing project" at March Reserved Airforce base in Riverside, is currently under construction. Mojgan graduated from the National University in Iran with a degree in Architectural Engineering. She is a member of the AIAOC, IASEA and has been a board member of IAW Foundation since its inception.
