We are Excited to Continue our Global Medical Outreach!

As we gear up for our upcoming mission trip to Nigeria, we reflect on the incredible impact of last year’s outreach, where we provided vital medical care to over 500 residents in remote areas. Our team conducted eye exams, distributed over 400 eyeglasses, and delivered essential healthcare services—improving lives and ensuring better health outcomes.

This year, we are excited to continue this life-changing work in Abia State of Nigeria, with the support of our Nigerian-based volunteers, including public health specialists, pharmacists, doctors, and nurses. Together, we will bring free medical care, vision services, and essential medications to communities with limited access to healthcare.

We look forward to sharing updates, stories, and impact from this year’s trip. Together, we are making healthcare accessible and transforming lives—one community at a time.

Recognizing the Pioneering Work of Dr. Aaron Shirley as We Celebrate Black History Month

(1933-2014)

Dr. Aaron Shirley was a trailblazing physician who overcame immense barriers to ensure that underserved communities had access to quality healthcare. Growing up in segregated Mississippi inspired him to pursue a career in medicine despite the odds. As the first black medical resident in Mississippi, he broke racial barriers in the healthcare system and established affordable community health centers that provided life-saving care to his community. His patient-centered approach ensured that families received medical treatment, screenings, and preventive care, regardless of their ability to pay.

Mission Africa honors Dr. Shirley’s legacy by bringing healthcare directly to underserved communities. Locally, we've provided health fairs and dental screenings, ensuring families access essential care. Globally, our medical outreach initiatives deliver critical medical and vision services to communities in rural villages in Nigeria. Just as Dr. Shirley’s work empowered communities in Mississippi, Mission Africa remains committed to expanding healthcare access and improving health outcomes in the communities we serve.
