Taller de Plena Mayag?ezana Pt. 2
Plena Workshops Pt.2
with Rick Santiago
Come learn traditional old plena from Mayaguez at an amazing workshop taught by plena masters Rick Santiago and Unico Noguet. Rich in complexities, tones, rhythmic subtleties and unique drumming techniques, this more intimate style of plena offers a refreshing complement to contemporary carnavalesque plena. If you already know plena, this will be a fantastic refresher and complement to your knowledge, and will add diversity to your techniques and approach; if you want to learn plena, there is no better place to start; come learn and contribute in the effort to preserve this old, fun and fragile Afro-Caribbean genre by learning how to play it from two masters.

$35 per class
A part of The Loisaida Center's Knowledge Bazar:
The
Plenatorium
A space for study, encounter, historical interpretation and performance of plena styles.
Plena-torium:  literally a place for plena; a plena universe (a project initiative of the Loisaida Center focused on the nurture and documentation of the practice of Puerto Rican  plena)  a genre of popular traditional music, chant and dance native to the island of Puerto Rico, but with similar mutually related expressions throughout the Caribbean.
