EPA 2023 Clean School Bus (CSB) Grant Program
  • $400 million in competitive grant funding for zero-emission school buses, clean school buses, and EVSE.
  • Two grant categories: school district and Tribal applicants; and third-party applicants.
  • Priority given to replace buses serving high-need local education agencies, rural areas, Tribal school districts and public school districts receiving basic support payments for students living on Tribal land, and rural areas. 
  • At least 40% of the funding will go to disadvantaged communities.
  • Grant deadline: Tuesday, August 22.

CARB Clarifies Advanced Clean Fleet Regulation
  • CARB withdrew the Advanced Clean Fleet Regulation (ACF) from the Office of Administrative Law (OAL) Review on July 26, 2023 and resubmitted it to OAL on August 4.

Alternative Fuel Insight
Tesla Seeks $100M
Tesla is looking for $100M from the Inflation Reduction Act to build nine megacharger stations from the Mexico-Texas border to Fremont, California to facilitate transit for Tesla Semis made in Mexico. Each site would have eight 750kW Tesla NACS V4 chargers and four Megawatt Charging Standard (MCS) chargers.

Former GM Engineer Makes a Zero Carbon Muscle Truck
Mik Copeland of Arrington Performance, retired after 25 years at GM, has developed a hydrogen-powered ICE muscle truck with zero carbon emissions and near-zero NOx without using any after treatment. Working with Bosch, he expects to take the truck to much lower emission levels.

Used EV Prices Continue to Drop
The price of used EVs has dropped over 28% in the past year. Several factors are affecting used EV prices including lower new EV costs (lower MSRP and significant incentives) and softening demand for EVs.

PepsiCo Tesla Semi Program
PepsiCo has deployed 21 Tesla Semi trucks, mostly in Sacramento. The primary routes assigned to these trucks are under 100 miles, and include several delivery stops. PepsiCo has also indicated that the power requirements for chargers at depots is a problem.

Costco is offering incentives up to $5K on new luxury-brand EVs with the largest incentive going to the Audi E-TronGT and the RS E-Tron GT sedans.

Despite a recent visit to the White House, EV bus company Proterra has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in Delaware, citing market headwinds for their financial difficulties.
