UCSF CCMBM Core Services Newsletter - November 2022
Our monthly Bone Investigator Group, a work-in-progress group for clinical researchers in bone, has become a valued resource. It is conducted within the EBSD Core in very close partnership with the Imaging Core, and it provides opportunities for established researchers as well as trainees to get feedback on grant applications, manuscripts, and research collaborations.

-- Anne Schafer, MD, Professor of Medicine and of Epidemiology & Biostatistics at UCSF and Chief of Endocrinology and Metabolism at the San Francisco VA Health Care System.
There are many opportunities for study design training and educational opportunities through the EBSD Core. Become a CCMBM member to access EBSD Core's NEW Training Modules!

Need to brush up on biostatistics basics? Looking for educational resources for trainees in your lab? Longing to feel more confident about sample size and power calculations for your grants? Wishing online resources would be directly relevant to your research?

The EBSD Core has created two short (approximately 15-minute long) educational videos expressly for musculoskeletal researchers:
 1. Choice of statistical tests for statistical analysis
 2. Power calculations and sample size analysis

Created and recorded by CCMBM member Dr. Janet Chiang, these videos use examples from musculoskeletal hypotheses and experiments just like yours! Check them out on the CCMBM Members Only site

Your Members Only login will be your email. Please contact Jane Thomas if you have difficulties accessing this site.
November 18, 10:00-11:00am; Virtual Event
Investigator Karin Wu, MD will receive feedback on her VA CDA/NIH K23 proposal titled "Modulation of the gut microbiome by dietary fiber to improve intestinal calcium absorption and bone health in older men."
Members are invited to join to learn from this session.
RSVP for Zoom details.
Hosted by CCMBM EBSD & Imaging Cores
Did you miss our last seminar, technical workshop, or other event? Or are you looking for imaging equipment or skeletal biology standard operating protocols? Members have access to workshops, seminars and retreat session recordings, protocols, and archived newsletters on the CCMBM Members Only Site. Never miss out on all things related to the Center!

Contact Jane Thomas for login assistance or questions on the members only site.
The Imaging Core is offering service discounts to Early Stage Investigator and Trainee members. The Epidemiology, Biostatistics and Study Design Core is also offering up to 6 hours of free UCSF Clinical and Translational Institute (CTSI) consultation time for all CCMBM members. Please contact each Core to utilize these member discounts.
