A Message from our VP of Academics and Ed Tech

Dear Carondelet Community,

First and foremost, I hope you had a magical Christmas and New Year break full of family and fun.

We are sending you this week's eNews today (instead of on Sunday) so you have plenty of time to plan for next week. It may be hard to believe that it’s already time to start thinking about choosing classes for the 2023-2024 school year!

The week we get back from break, you and your daughter will be receiving her teacher recommendations for courses for next year. This process ensures your daughter will take courses that challenge her, and support her learning needs. Also the first week, on Friday, we will have a community which will offer an Advanced Placement and general course advisement fair. A deep dive will be available for all our AP classes and teachers will also be on-site to help answer questions students might have for any department.

Our Scheduling Website is officially open and provides a one-stop-shop for all things course advisement including the course catalog, a detailed, step-by-step slideshow about course advisement, and the scheduling timeline. For each grade level, we have broken down the scheduling process into steps that should be easy to follow. There are also videos and department maps to help students navigate graduation requirements and get a feel for how the programs build.

Here are some key dates to know about scheduling:

  • The week of January 10th, your daughter will receive a personalized email with the classes her current teachers recommend for next year.
  • On January 13th, your daughter will have the opportunity to attend the AP fair and ask teachers and department chairs questions about classes including those her teachers approved and recommended. Please note: College Counselors will be unable to schedule your daughter in any class that is not on the approved list.
  • Advisement Meetings with College Counselor:
  • Meetings for current 11th graders going into 12th (Class of 2024):
  • 1/17/23 through 2/03/23
  • Meetings for current 10th graders going into 11th (Class of 2025):
  • 2/06/23 through 2/28/213
  • Special schedules for 9th graders going into 10th (Class of 2026):
  • 3/1/23 and 3/2/23: Classroom presentations by Counselors and MBS teachers during class
  • 3/6/23: Due date for course selection forms
  • 3/9/23 - 3/10/23: Quick recap meetings with Counselors during MBS

We look forward to working with you on course scheduling. Take a look at the step-by-step scheduling website and take some time to better understand what options exist and what the scheduling process consists of for your student.

PowerSchool Portal

The PowerSchool Portal opened on Tuesday, January 3, 2023 @ 8:00 AM. Please email Katie Almonte with any questions about your PowerSchool and/or Schoology account.

COVID Tests

There has been a slight uptick in COVID cases since we’ve returned from the Thanksgiving break. We are encouraging our community to test before returning to school on Monday, January 9th.

We want to remind students and families of the safety measures proven to mitigate the spread of colds, flu, and COVID: washing hands, staying home when you’re unwell, and masking indoors. If your student has tested positive for COVID, please reach out to the Attendance Office as soon as possible.

Uniform Reminders

Cold Weather Approved Uniforms

As the cold weather continues, we are allowing solid-colored outerwear jackets, coats or vests to be worn over Carondelet/De La Salle sweatshirts. This is to ensure that students are warm enough on campus and during passing periods. Please note that flannels and non-Carondelet/De La Salle sweatshirts/fleeces are not permitted. Additionally, solid-colored black tights or leggings can be worn under skirts. Sweatpants and pajamas are not permitted. We encourage students to layer up and dress for the weather.

Cannon Wellness Center

Visit at our Open House

As we open the doors of The Cannon to our students, we would like to invite our parent and guardian community to join us for an Open House on Wednesday, Jan. 18th from 4-5 PM. Please RSVP by Wednesday, Jan. 11th.

Thank you to our community for making this possible. Your philanthropic investment directly impacts the success of our students—their health, their wellbeing, and their lives.

AP Open House

Learn about AP classes at Carondelet

On Friday, Jan. 13, Carondelet will hold its annual AP Open House in the Jean Hofmann Center for Innovation. AP teachers will give short presentations about AP courses offered at Carondelet and answer any student questions about how to be successful in these academically challenging courses. Students who register for any AP courses next year are required to attend these presentations. Check out the schedule here.

What is AP?

AP is an abbreviation for Advanced Placement, which are high school courses designed by the College Board to replicate college-level coursework. Included in each presentation are the highlights of the Carondelet AP Course Contract. Parents of AP students are highly encouraged to review the course expectations outlined in the contract to best support their daughter’s academic journey.
