In the realm of youth rehabilitation, every success story stands as a testament to the dedication and passion of individuals like Angela Lynn Dunaj. As a MSW Intern at PESA, Angela's impact transcends mere professional duties; it resonates deeply with the lives she touches.
Dunaj’s journey toward effecting positive change commenced long before her time at PESA. Having dedicated herself to assisting youth in group homes and the foster care system, she intimately understood the struggles faced by disadvantaged children. This firsthand experience ignited her passion for social work and counseling, propelling her towards her current pursuit of a Master's in Social Work at California Baptist University.
During the last six months at PESA, Dunaj’s remarkable contribution was highlighted when her supervisor received a letter of commendation from the family of a diverted youth she worked closely with. The family expressed,”Her belief in my son’s potential has been a critical element in his journey toward redemption. She has offered him more than just a chance at redemption; she has given him the confidence and support needed to embrace it fully.”
Central to Dunaj's impact is PESA's innovative diversion programs that employ peers and near-peers to guide youth towards self-reflection and personal growth. By diverting youth from the juvenile court system, PESA facilitates transformative justice rather than punitive measures. Through individual and family therapy, mentorship, and academic support, participants are empowered to navigate their paths towards rehabilitation.
Dunaj's attraction to PESA stemmed from its commitment to justice, particularly for young people entangled in a justice system that often feels impersonal and lacking understanding. In Dunaj's own words, "What really attracted me to PESA was their aspect of restorative justice...recognizing the heart behind it and the extensive research they've conducted to effectively support their clients." Her sentiment echoes the ethos of PESA, where the focus lies not on condemnation but on empowerment.
Angela Lynn Dunaj exemplifies the transformative potential of dedicated individuals within PESA’s youth rehabilitation programs. Her story, intertwined with PESA's mission, serves as a beacon of hope, illuminating the path towards a brighter future for youth.
