WEEK OF OCTOBER 20, 2023

Tropical storms Max, Lidia, and Norma continue to impact growers in Mexico and the US, causing disruptions to supply and potential lingering effects on upcoming quality. Heavy rains over the Southern Gulf Coast could impact Northern Florida and Southern Georgia. Civil unrest in Guatemala is causing shortages in various crops. A brief heat wave in the west will bring warm temperatures, affecting heat-sensitive crops and crop yields.

Yellow corn is having some quality issues causing limitations in supply. White color corn is still in good supply as a substitute if shortages or quality issues impact your order.

American sliced ​​cucumbers are really short as the Baja crop is done and American supply is struggling with poor quality. English hot house cucumbers, especially #2s, are also short due to limited supply in Mexico and Canada.

In the citrus market, Grapefruit are very short in supply causing elevated pricing. Soon, Texan grapefruit will be available which will bring some relief to the marketplace. All lemons are improving in quality as we transition to desert production. Oranges are increasing in price because the Valencia variety is coming to a close, but Navels are not yet ready. We expect this transition phase to last about 3 weeks. Limes are also elevated in pricing and sizing because the crop is not blooming due to strong winds.

Table carrots are short for the next 1- 2 weeks due to limited production and poor quality, however we have good supply on Jumbo 25lbs as a potential substitution.

Outside of production, the butter market remains elevated with high prices for the foreseeable future.
