Sunapee Happenings

Here we are… just the second week into the New Year with hopes of a very happy, very healthy, very gratifying 50 weeks to come! It's that time of year when we look both ways. Not left and right, like we’re crossing the road, but back and forward at the year just wound down, and ahead at the one coming into view. It’s a moment of reflection, and perhaps resolutions, new interests and possibilities.

CUE THE MUSIC

Friday, January 13 at 7pm.  Sunapee Coffeehouse will be an open mic session with local musicians.

Peabody’s Coal Train (PCT) is a unique, local NH acoustic Americana 6-piece band featuring strings and shared vocal harmonies. Musicians are Jason Teaster on acoustic guitar, Dave Anderson on harmonica, Steve Cybulski on banjo, Dave Carroll on mandolin, Marc Fraley on bass, and Scott Hayes on guitar and dobro. Hailing from the Contoocook River Valley of central NH, they play originals and covers that tell stories celebrating the triumphs and tragedies of the human condition. They particularly appreciate opportunities to interact with a listening audience in special venues with neighbors and new friends.

ICE-IN CONTEST

Good luck to all 100+ of you who sent in guesses for the Ice-In contest. Ice-in on Lake Sunapee is defined as ice coverage over most of Lake Sunapee including ice coverage from the shore to Loon Island and across to the eastern shore. Most harbors and inlets will have ice, and ~85% of the entire lake. A boat will not be able to navigate from Georges Mills to Newbury Harbor.  LSPA has been collecting ice-in data since January 2016. The winner will be announced as soon as we can confirm complete ice-in. Best of luck to each of you! www.lakesunapee.org

The Sunapee Ski Tows was the 5th ski area to open in New England following, Suicide Six, Stowe, Mt Cranmore and Mt Bromley. Pretty amazing!

Mt Sunapee ski area didn't open until 1948.  (Sunapee Ski Tow's last year of operation was 1976-77 winter.)
