Laya Khadjavi is a member of IAWF's Board of Advisory. Laya Khadjavi was most recently Chief Operating Officer, Head of Strategy and Business Development at ICE Canyon, a global investment management firm specializing in Emerging Markets and Global Credit. Prior to joining ICE Canyon, Laya was Managing Director at Morgan Stanley, where during her 23-year tenure she held a succession of senior management positions, including: Global Head of Markets Group in Global Wealth Management, Global Head of Collateralized Debt Obligations and Co-Head of North America Finance Group in Institutional Securities.

IAWF would like to congratulate Persis Karim on becoming the new
Persis Karim has been IAWF's speaker and supporter.
Persis Karim is editor/co-editor of three anthologies of Iranian American literature including A World Between: Poems, Short Stories and Essays by Iranian Americans (1999), Let Me Tell You Where I've Been: New Writing by Women of the Iranian Diaspora (2006) and Tremors: New Fiction by Iranian American Writers (2013). She teaches literature and creative writing at San Jose State University and is also the founding director of Persian Studies and Coordinator of Middle East Studies.

Ms. Jila Ajeli Kashef is the founder and president of Keep Children in School Foundation (KCIS), based in Los Angeles, and Anjomane Yarane Danesh va Mehr, a sister organization of KCIS in Iran. These two organizations were created with the mission of keeping less fortunate children of Iran and Afghanistan in school. She also served as a board member of the Iranian Children's Right Society (ICRS), supporting Working-Children's Rights in Iran.

The Honorable Judge Shahla S. Sabet is the first Iranian American Judge appointed to the Superior Court of the State of California. She was appointed by Governor Pete Wilson to the bench in San Bernardino County in 1993. Judge Sabet has presided over criminal, civil, juvenile, and family law cases for the last twenty years. Throughout her judicial career, Judge Sabet has served as a member of the faculty at the California Judges Center for Education and has taught numerous judges on the topics of judicial ethics, fairness, and equal access to the justice system. She has led seminars at the Orientation Program and the New Judges College in Berkeley, California. In 2013, Judge Sabet retired from the bench and currently sits on assignment as a retired judge under an appointment order by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of California. Judge Sabet was named Woman of the Year by the California Assembly in 1994. She has received outstanding achievements awards from the Iranian American Council of Los Angeles in 1998 and the Persian Heritage Society of London in 2000. Judge Sabet received her bachelor's degree from the University of Tehran. She then moved to the United States and earned her master's degree from UCLA in 1972 and a Ph.D. from Claremont University in 1977. She earned her Juris Doctor degree from Southwestern University School of Law in 1985. After practicing law as a Deputy District Attorney for eight years, Judge Sabet was appointed to the bench. Visit her IAWF profile here.
