The Sand Paper

Fall 2023 Edition

Thank you to All Who Supported the

Third Annual Beach Bash Benefit Concert

An incredible afternoon at the beach for our fans, sponsors, bands, and Sandy Hook! Support from close to 1,000 ticket purchasers and our generous sponsors means we can do even more in the park. Big thanks to our partners at the National Park Service for helping to make the event possible, and we're already looking forward to next year!

Make the Porch Rock

Thanks to a group of donors who raised their hand to "make the porch rock" at our Spring Soiree last May, the porch of the Spermaceti Life Saving Station is now graced with seven permanent, all-weather rocking chairs for visitors to enjoy. A dedication ceremony and donor recognition event was held on October 12 to say thank you to those who supported the campaign. Four additional chairs can be found on the porch of the History House museum located at the north end of Officer's Row. Thank you to our donors for helping to make your visit to the park even more comforatble!

Your Business at the Beach ...

On September 15 the Sandy Hook Foundation and the NPS welcomed a team of research scientists from Pfizer to Sandy Hook for a day of comaraderie and team building while helping to clean over 140 lbs of trash from the ocean-side fishing beach, Beach F on Sandy Hook. Thank you for helping to keep our beaches clean.

On October 13 a group of employees from Manasquan Bank participated in a rescheduled cleanup and cleared the beach of 172 lbs of debris at Lot A. Wow! Thank you to NPS Ranger Mikayla Turner for hosting these groups and educating them about the causes of debris found at Sandy Hook.

Sandy Hook always needs ocean and bay-side beach cleanups - if your business is interested in our Your Business at the Beach Progream please email infosandyhooknj.org and get your team-building activity scheduled!

Fall is Busy on Sandy Hook

This fall the Sandy Hook Foundation offered public opportunities and worked with a number of partners to offer programming and events to benefit the park and its visitors.

Special thanks to Tootsie Olan Productions who partnered with the Sandy Hook Foundation to offer DanceFLOORED on September 12 to over 100 participants at the Post Chapel followed by drinks and bites at the popular and busy Mule Barn Tavern across the street. Thank you to all who participated and visited Fort Hancock for the first time!

Beach Yoga Wrap Up and Breakfast

On Saturday, September 16 the Foundation hosted students of beach yoga instructor Tony Costa for a collegial breakfast reception after winding up the extended summer season of free yoga on the beach. Namaste!

Sandy Hook Jersey Shore Half Marathon a Success

On Sunday, October 1 close to 1,000 runners did what people do best at Sandy Hook, recreate! While a 13 mile race might not seem like recreation to everyone, these folks hit the ground running with the Shore Athletic Club and in support of the Sandy Hook Foundation. Pictured above is SHF board president Pete Izzo with his family, sporting a number of blue ribbons!

Prior to the race, on September 20 SHF partnered with Kessler Rehabilitation and the Shore Athletic Club to host a fun preview run launched from Spermaceti LifeSaving Station for any interested participants, with physical therapy technicians on hand to interact 1:1 with racers regarding running form and function.

Over 320 racers elected to donate a total of $3,445 upon registration for the race, and were greeted on race day by Sandy Hook Foundation staff and given an opportunity to purchase our newest merchandise styles and selections.

Thank you to all those who supported the Jersey Shore Half Marathon and the Sandy Hook Foundation.
