Should We Put Out a Statement?

By Seth Chalmer, Stanford SOCIAL INNOVATION Review
Thinking strategically about how nonprofits should respond to potentially polarizing world events.
That decision is more difficult if there are passionate disagreements about the issue among professional teams, boards, funders, and community partners. It’s often impossible to talk about public advocacy without inflaming internal disagreements—and that’s scary. When passionate ideological divisions arise on a team, they can be painful, time-consuming, and damaging to organizational culture. Understandably, employers often try to avoid workplace conversations about divisive topics.

By Cody Lents, COVI
In the always-changing cybersecurity landscape, organizations are increasingly susceptible to a variety of threats. These risks can jeopardize not only sensitive data but also overall organizational efficiency and ultimately effectiveness. By understanding and implementing robust risk management strategies, you can safeguard your operations and continue your mission without the interruptions and full stops to productivity that come with of security breaches and infrastructure outages.
Understanding Cybersecurity Risk Management: Definitions and Core Concepts
Cybersecurity risk management is the practice of identifying, analyzing, and addressing risks to protect data and IT operations within an organization. It is a proactive approach essential for any establishment aiming to both protect against potential threats and ensure uninterrupted productivity where possible.
Key considerations in cybersecurity risk management include:
-
Threat Identification: Understanding the various forms of cyber threats, such as malware, phishing, social engineering, outages, and ransomware.
-
Vulnerability Assessment: Regularly evaluating the security of IT systems and identifying any weaknesses that could be exploited by cybercriminals, also known as bad actors.
-
Risk Assessment: Estimating the probability and potential impact of different cybersecurity threats on the organization.
-
Risk Mitigation Strategies: Developing and implementing plans to reduce vulnerability or the impact of a cyberattack should one occur.
