Weekly Bulletin - October 19, 2023

Dear Families,

Our 4th Annual Trunk or Treat takes place in less than two weeks on Halloween. If you will be decorating your trunks and would like to reserve a parking space, please don’t forget to sign up HERE. There will be prizes for the 4 best trunks – one of them for the best Christian themed trunk.

With November right around the corner please remember these important events coming up at St. Louise School:

  • “All Saints’ Day”. You can find more information about “All Saints’ Day HERE. A weird pop up comes up asking for money before you get to the page. We will have our All-Saints’ Day Mass at 9am on Wednesday, November 1st, 2023. All families are invited to attend.

  • Thursday, November 2, is All Souls’ Day. All Souls Day is a holy day set aside for honoring the dead. Find out more about All Souls’ Day HERE.

  • Friday, November 10, is Veterans Day. This year, we will be honoring our Veterans with the entire school by holding an outdoor assembly by the Flagpole at 8:30am. All families and Veterans are invited and watch the bulletin and red envelope in the coming weeks to sign up for us to send an invitation to any special Veterans in your family.

Open House and Admissions Season

While it seems like we just started the school year, we are actually already busily preparing for the 2024-2025 Admissions Season! Even though we employ many advertising avenues, when it comes down to it, year-after-year, our best promotional product is YOU, the current school parent!

When we ask prospective new school parents how they heard about St. Louise, the most popular answer is, "My neighbor/friend/co-worker/ is a member of the St. Louise community and (they don’t attend St. Louise, their child does) said we should check it out." It is with that reality that we have a few incentives to encourage our current school parents to continue to market St. Louise School to those you know with children approaching the ages of 4-14.

Our first incentive is to provide one-month's free tuition (at our in-parish one-child rate) to a school family who refers a new family that chooses to enroll at St. Louise. When new families apply for admission, they can choose how they heard about St. Louise and if your name is listed as the referral-source, you get that free tuition (valued at over $833 )!

Another incentive is tied to our Open Houses. We hold two in-person Open Houses during the admissions season. We suggest that current school parents not only encourage a prospective new school parent to schedule an in person tour, but that they also sign up for an Open House which they can do online HERE. When prospective families sign up for the Open House, they again have the opportunity to let us know how they heard about St. Louise. If they list you as their referral to the Open House, and they attend, you will receive a $10 Starbucks card.

Our first Open House is Thursday, November 9, from 6:00-7:30PM. Please consider asking your neighbor/friend/co-worker with an upcoming Pre-K to 8th grade student to attend the Open House with you. Our second Open House will be on January 25.

We hope that you will take some time over the coming days to spread the word and share your family’s St. Louise story. With all of you and your continued support we will continue to welcome more great families while growing our enrollment.

Trivia Question: 1st and 10th parent that e-mails me the answer to the following question will get a Gift Card:

Question: St. Louise de Marillac was the patron saint of what?

Have a Blessed Weekend!

A Message from Fr. Gary

Dear Friends at St. Louise,

This is the last of the three columns that I am writing on what it means to be pro-life as a Catholic. This week I will focus on care of the earth. Many times, our bishops have instructed us that the protection of life in the womb is “preeminent” among all the issues of Catholic Social Teaching. Of course, this is from the perspective that life in the womb has no means of defending itself –the unborn child has no voice. This understanding becomes the lens through which we view all the other issues of protecting human life in all its stages – even protecting life on our common home, the earth. The key question concerning the protection of life in every circumstance becomes: Who is voiceless, who is most vulnerable? Pope Francis is calling us to also consider that the care of earth itself is care of the poorest, the most vulnerable, children, and those who often don’t have a voice in society.

"I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness.”

Congratulations to 8th Grader Charlie M. for his 3rd Place Finish at his

USA Fencing Tournament!

A big thank you to the Parents’ Club for providing the funds to install the new display in the school library!! The 98” display is the largest display on campus and replaces the failing library projector. It provides a great picture with better resolution and color for all who gather in the library. This was entirely made possible this year by a grant from the Parents’ Club. We are very blessed to have such great parents!

Congratulations to 7th grader Delaney C., who was invited to train at the Olympic training Center in Lake Placid, NY.

She trained twice a day with the National Team and international staff in the areas of ballet, strength, conditioning, rhythmic gymnastics apparatus technique and developing artistry and expressivity.

This week, St. Louise Alumni (Lucy, Gaea, Briggs & Ethan) came from Holy Names Academy and O’Dea High School to talk about their schools. Our 8th graders got to hear from these St. Louise graduates about how they felt prepared going into high school, and we also got to see how articulate and professional the grads were!

Mr. Glaser’s 6th grade class joined their buddies in Mrs. Hoffman’s Pre-K class to help them with a service project, making Halloween ghost handprint cards for residents at Providence Marianwood.
