Miniature American Shepherd Community,

Over the past several weeks, the new canine genetics testing protocols at the Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory in collaboration with the Purdue Canine Genetics Lab have been undergoing a thorough quality assessment. During the pause in testing, we have not only ensured high quality test results, but we have improved the process in two key ways: 1) The turnaround time for test results has decreased from 1-2 weeks to 2-3 business days, and 2) we have defined clear laboratory criteria for sample rejection to prevent poor-quality samples from negatively impacting the tests.

As previously communicated, all samples with prior results will be re-tested and re-reported according to the updated protocol. Any samples received during our testing pause will be tested and reported. You will be directly contacted if the results of the updated protocol do not match the originally reported results. Please allow time for us to work through the backlog of samples. If the quality of your dog’s sample does not meet the quality requirements, you will be asked to submit a new sample – this applies to both previously submitted samples and all samples moving forward.

We recognize that this delay has been frustrating, but we hope you can appreciate the importance of the high-quality standards we hold as an accredited laboratory. We appreciate the opportunity to serve your community with these exclusively available tests.

Sincerely,

Kenitra Hendrix
