Membership renewal forms will be mailed out this week. Starting July 1, please take the time to renew either by mail or online on our website. Our League is our members!

Voters will have an opportunity to vote Yes to protect clean water sources, air quality, and wildlife in Cook County on the November ballot. A property tax increase of 0.025% (less than $1.66 a month for the vast majority of homeowners) will protect, restore, and expand the Cook County Forest Preserves.

There are going to be Forest Preserve walks throughout the summer to provide an opportunity to get better acquainted with various forest preserves in the system. The walks are free, but you must register for them. They are:

Beaubien Woods, Tuesday, July 19, 10:00–11:30am, W. Doty Ave S., southeast of E. 130th St & S. Ellis Ave.

Schiller Woods, Wednesday, August 3, 10:00–11:30am, W. Irving Park Rd, east of Des Plaines River Rd.

Catherine Chevalier Woods, Thursday, September 15, 10:00–11:30am, N. East River Rd, north of W. Foster Ave.

The League’s trained Observer Corps are a respected part of the community— they work to keep local governments accountable and community members informed. Our League has been woefully short of observers for the past two years, even when municipal meetings could have been observed online. Would you be available to observe one meeting a month of a local governmental unit? It can be the easiest way to contribute to our League's mission. Early Gubernatorial Primary Election voting starts today, June 13, at the Oak Park Village Hall, 123 Madison, from 9:00am-5:00pm, Monday-Saturday. Sunday hours for June 19 and 26 will be 10:00am-4:00pm. Early voting will continue till June 27. You can also do grace period voter registration during early voting hours, but two pieces of valid identification are required to register.

Eileen Reavey co-founded the grassroots advocacy group National Popular Vote while campaigning for Oregon to pass the National Popular Vote bill in 2016. She now works to apply those organizing lessons in other states as National Popular Vote’s National Grassroots Director. She works on building momentum and support for this issue nationwide and on training volunteers to be organizers and informed advocates for the cause.
