An Unforgettable Visit: Harris County Sheriff's Office Inspires & Blesses The Gano Mission Center Kids Club

Gano Mission Center experienced an extraordinary and heartwarming event when the Harris County Sheriff's Office made an unexpected visit. The atmosphere was filled with excitement as the officers engaged with the children, sharing stories and imparting valuable lessons about their role in the community. The genuine interest and compassion displayed by the deputies created a bond between law enforcement and the young members, fostering a sense of trust and understanding.

In a surprise that left the Kid's Club members beaming with pride, the Harris County Sheriff's Office went above and beyond by bestowing upon each child the honorary title of Sheriff. This gesture not only brought immense joy to the children, but also instilled in them a sense of responsibility and leadership. The experience of being honored as Honorary Sheriffs will undoubtedly leave a lasting impact on the young minds, encouraging them to embrace their potential and contribute positively to their community.

The visit from the Harris County Sheriff's Office exemplified the power of community engagement and collaboration. By taking the time to interact with the Kids, the deputies demonstrated their commitment to building meaningful relationships with the next generation. This inspiring interaction emphasized the importance of trust, respect, and service, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of both the kids and the officers. The Harris County Sheriff's Office's impromptu visit was a shining example of law enforcement's dedication to fostering positive connections with the community they serve.

Ministry Spotlights

Embracing Faith and Fellowship

This month Pastor Juan and Ms Lucia, missionaries at the Gano Mission Center, took five youth club participants to a worship night at the University of Houston’s Baptist Student Union (BSM). It was a wonderful night in which they enjoyed a time of playing pool, chess, and good food. Soon after the worship band led everyone in a powerful time of worshiping God. A message full of dynamic teaching was delivered that centered on “Listening Well”. The youth were able to experience something different. They really enjoyed their time at UH. It was such a blessing for all. Brayan, who is a freshman student at UH and one of our 2023 MCH Scholarship recipients, was able to discover the BSM and other fellow students while he was there. This was a night that took them to the next level in their spiritual walks. To God be the glory!!

Uniting In Compassion

On Friday, October 27th, The Compassion Center hosted a quarterly luncheon to encourage pastors and ministry leaders from 11 churches and mission organizations in the Compassion Center Network. We were honored to have Clay Bowers from the Church Ambassador Network come share with us how we can be involved in ministering to our state government officials and look for opportunities to more effectively serve our communities around the city.

Melcher Library Joins Forces With Joy For Interactive Fun

This month at Joy Mission Center, staff members from the Melcher Neighborhood Library came to our Kids Club program. They led two STEM projects for over 30 children. One project required the children to cut an index card in such a way as to fit their whole body through it. The other project was a contest to construct the longest paper chain possible using only one piece of paper. The children got very creative and enjoyed thinking outside the box to complete the tasks. Partnerships like this allow us to provide holistic care to our community members while encouraging them to love God with all their heart, soul, strength and MIND.

Volunteer Highlight: Roselyn Sheppard

Roselyn Sheppard; Answering The Call

Roselyn's journey began when she expressed her deep desire to minister to the homeless to Pastor David Cripps, Director of Outreach Ministries at MCH. As she prayed for direction, Pastor David shared how she could volunteer to help serve lunch at the homeless outreach program held every Monday at the Gano Mission Center. Embracing the opportunity, Roselyn eagerly stepped into her new role, and since then, her impact has been nothing short of remarkable. Her unwavering dedication and compassionate spirit have touched the lives of countless individuals experiencing homelessness, offering them sustenance, warmth, and most importantly, a sense of dignity. Roselyn's commitment to serving the marginalized has become a testament to the power one person possesses to make a significant difference in the lives of others. Her journey at Gano Mission Center continues to inspire and uplift not only those we serve, but to MCH staff and volunteers as well.
