FALL 2023 NEWSLETTER

A MESSAGE FROM:

Ian Wheeliker,

Executive Director

As summer folds into fall, I would like to take a moment to reflect on the past year at The Outreach Centre. With the release of our 2022-23 Annual Report, it is clear that our services are greatly needed. The program statistic numbers are staggering, but also encouraging. Individuals and families are reaching out to us for support and utilizing our programs and services, which leaves me feeling hopeful.

I saw reasons for hope in every corner of our community over the past year.

I saw hope when the provincial and federal governments increased our ability to provide nutritious food to our clients and install air conditioning at Julietta's Place.

I saw hope in the success of our fundraising events, showing that the community cares and wants to contribute to the work at The Outreach Centre.

And I saw hope every day in the generosity of our donors - individuals, families, businesses and corporations who care about supporting their neighbours and community.

Although the work that we do can be challenging, I am optimistic that the best days are ahead.

Thank you to our donors, funders, community partners, staff, Board of Directors and volunteers who support us each year.

DONOR SPOTLIGHT

VESTA ENERGY

Vesta Energy is an oil & gas company that originated in 2011. They own and operate two gas plants and three central oil processing facilities. With a commitment and focus on integrity, their every day mantra is "We do what we say, and always do the right thing."

Vesta Energy is a continuous supporter of The Outreach Centre and they believe that the organization is making a difference in the community and the lives of others. They have proudly supported the Tools for School program, the Adopt a Family program and Walk a Mile in Her Shoes. They believe that the Tools for Schools program is important due to the huge impact it has on families and students in central Alberta. By partnering with many organizations in the area, this program shows that we are "stronger together" which is seen as a huge asset by the Vesta Energy team.

For the last number of years, Vesta Energy has made an effort to focus their community investments on programs that support youth and families first. Aligning with the focus and mission of The Outreach Centre, they feel that their support goes directly to those who need it the most and to those that Vesta may not be able to support on their own. Their hope is that those who receive support from The Outreach Centre continue to grow within the community and that one day they too are in a position to give back to The Outreach Centre.

Thank you, Vesta Energy! Your support and generosity is making an impact in the lives of our clients and community.

MONTHLY DONOR SPOTLIGHT

JEN TURNER

Meet Jen! Though there are many different ways in which she could contribute financially, Jennifer chose the monthly giving option. We are very grateful for her support!

Why do you donate to The Outreach Centre?

I donate to The Outreach Centre because of the dignity and care they show towards the people who are accessing their services. They understand that many of their clients are facing multiple barriers and offer a holistic approach to helping support them, whether it’s school supplies, gift cards during the holiday season, supports for families experiencing domestic violence, legal information or suicide prevention and outreach. They see the people first, not the problem.

Of the programs and services your gift supports, is there one that stands out more to you and why?

It means a lot to me that my support helps fund the suicide prevention and outreach programs because it’s important to let people know that there is help available and that no one needs to face this darkness alone. It’s a subject that many shy away from discussing, but being able to sit with people in their sadness and pain without looking away from their suffering can be life-saving, in the most literal way.

How do you hope your gift benefits the community?

I hope that my gift benefits the community by showing people that they are loved and cared for even as they navigate circumstances that make them feel like they are isolated and alone. The Outreach Centre meets so many tangible needs of their clients, but more importantly, they serve to remind their clients that they matter, that they are so much more than just their circumstances, and that there is always reason to hope.

Thank you Jennifer for your monthly donation to The Outreach Centre!
